Up until now Affinity has been 3 different products (Affinity Photo, Affinity Designer, and Affinity Publisher), with the option of linking them together if using Publisher - that's how I use them. The new version of Affinity is launching today and it is all 3 programs merged together into one. So layout creation, advanced text editing vector graphics, pixel graphics, digital painting, and photo editing all in one.

and it's FREE (windows & Mac)

I've just finished downloading the installer which I got via the description on that YouTube video I just shared. Now it's time for me to explore.

There are going to be some addons including an AI generator - those are for Canva subscribers. But you don't need to subscribe to scrapbook or photo edit etc etc with Affinity. I wonder how Adobe will respond to that?

WOW! That is huge news with Adobe raising prices for creative cloud subscriptions and also moving PSE to a 3 year license. I have the $9.99/month paid annually PSCC photography plan, but definitely see Affinity as a great contender and want to look into it too. Your tutorials are such a great resource for scrappers. Thanks for sharing with us! :agree

Just as Adobe has RAISED the pricing on ALL of their plans......

I might need to make a switch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :duh

anything you can do in Adobe software you can do in Affinity. The only issue is that the actions and styles work differently. So your PS actions and PS styles won't import into Affinity. Brushes do import. psd files do import (except any styles won't import if included).

I'm still a Paint Shop Pro user but last December there was a sale on the Affinity products. I was able to get all 3 of them for $89.00. Another forum I'm on for PSP learning has now added the Affinity products to the courses. So I've been working on learning it as well. Just another tool in the toolbox since PSP is no longer being updated and no support offered anymore either.

From what I've read, those who already have the standalone Photo, Designer and Publisher can still use them even if they install the new version. So when I get back to learning Affinity, I may take the plunge, sign up for the free Canva account and download it.

I found some things much easier to do in Affinity but other things are easier in PSP. Like Angela said actions and styles (which can be compared to scripts in PSP) do work differently. I love the shadowing in Affinity but prefer the text tool in PSP. I just need to use Affinity more to get used to it!

@Angela Toucan
Is Affinity able to use .tif files? I always download templates in .tif format because the preview shows up in windows and the .psd preview doesn't.

Wow! That's really amazing! Thanks for posting about this. I better get this downloaded and try it out! Thankfully you have a ton of tutorials already! :agree

I had a go at creating my first page using the new Affinity Studio today. I'm not liking the changes to the context toolbars much - most of the tools I use regularly are not included in the new toolbars. I'm going to need to spend a few minute creating a customised toolbar etc. Apparently I can create a new "studio" with all my preferred workflow tools etc in it. I might find out more about that this coming week.
I recorded myself creating this page and am uploading it to my "watch me scrap" YouTube channel (@AngelaToucan).
If you are trying out Affinity for the first time, you might want to "scrap along".

Csn I ask how shadows work then? It's been a year or so since I watched your videos. Can you 'save' your own shadows or is there a pack somewhere that works? I never really liked Canva's shadowing

@bellbird I tried to work my shadows yesterday. I didn't find of there a way to have preset shadows but I found that you can easily copy a shadow style to an other element by sliding the 'FX' on your element.
I still need practice to have a separate layer and modify my shadow as I want.

I figured from Angela's video that you couldn't seperate shadows, she seemed to duplicate the ribbon element & then reduce the fill of the duplicate ribbon, leaving only it's shadow visible then rotate & nudge that below the original ribbon layer - I don't know if there's another way around it?? @Angela Toucan

that's right.
My shadows tutorials: for version 2 - same process.

Yes, you can create your own shadow styles. I've just never bothered creating them for myself. I'll put it on my tutorials/explore list for this month.

I saw the guy in his video talking about customising the studio for your setup and so I tried that... sort of worked. It is also taking me a while to figure out how to do some of the stuff that I found so easy to do in V2... like selecting something and then aligning it to the page edges.... for now I can only get them to align to themselves if I chose more than one thing.

Will keep an eye out for your tutorials because I am sure to get more tips from you to make things easier.

I did manage to export my styles that I had created in v2 and reimport them into v3 so that I didn't have to refigure any of them out. I had made myself shadow styles a while back (saved from templates and such that I liked).
