Dawn, I have not tried one of these but I am sure it would work on paper. The actual stitch may not end up being as secure as a proper machine. You would need to secure it with a little glue on the reverse. One time I bought a small cheap sewing machine that I used for my paper scrapbooking. It was not a hand held one but small, not taking up much room in my craft room.

I haven’t tried one of those before, but I’m totally willing for YOU to try it out and tell me if I need one. :giggle

I used to have a Viking machine too. It was my Moms machine from the 70s/80s. I loved that thing but it kept dying and needing repairs and was getting too expensive. That thing could see through anything though! I have a Singer one now and it’s so lightweight and wimpy on anything thicker than like cotton. It does work on paper though, so that’s good.

Looking at it more, these definitely don’t get great reviews. I would probably use it for junk journals so messy wouldn’t really be a problem and it could be secured on the back with glue as you suggested. On the other hand for about $10 more, I could get a very cheap more conventional small sewing machine like this.

Gee, thanks Karen! :giggle it’s pretty cheap so might at least be worth a try. I’ll keep you posted.

I got one from my MIL and I can’t recommend it! It’s really hard to use and I never got it to work properly. It’s something about how you need to push it forward and hold the paper at the same time that didn’t work for me.

Sigh -- that was the impression I was getting from the reviews. Oh well, better to know in advance and stop me from buying one more thing from Amazon. :giggle

I had one a long time ago as a gift. It's no good for real sewing so I got rid of it fairly quickly.
