Wow! This really snuck up on me! It's time to pick out our next selections for book club already! We have a fun informal book club here at The Lilypad and it's open to anyone and everyone who likes to read! For this thread we are looking for suggestions for what to read together over the next four months. Each person can suggest one book one book one book one book. In order to give lots of people a change to make a suggestion, let's stick to one suggestion per person to start. When I do the voting poll, I can only have 10 selections in the poll, so one book suggestion per person lets more people give suggestions each time. I will leave this thread open until July17th or until we get 10 suggestions. Then I will open up a voting poll. Once we vote, I'll start a new thread for each of the four top books... one per month, for the next four months starting in August. You can see the complete list of our old picks in our Master Reading List. You can read the books in any order and at any time. If you want to chat about the books, just reply to that thread. Easy peasy! So.... what should we read together next? 1. The Housemaid by Freida McFadden 2. The Turtle House by Amanda Churchill 3. Miss Morgan's Book Brigade by Janet Skeslien Charles 4. Jackie by Dawn Tripp 5. All the Colors of the Dark by Chris Whitaker 6. 56 Days by Catherine Ryan Howard 7. The Change by Kirsten Miller 8. 9. 10.
I'll throw one suggestion out there... I just finished reading The Housemaid and it was so good. Creepy and twisty! https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/60556912-the-housemaid
I'm also going to add a suggestion by @tinkerbell1112 that she made in the Book Pad a few months ago. The Turtle House:
I saw that after I finished the first one. I haven't decided if I'm going to read the next one or not. I kinda feel like this should have been a stand alone book and I don't want to spoil it if I don't like the next one. Lol.
I'd love to read Miss Morgan's Book Brigade by Janet Skeslien Charles https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/199798905-miss-morgan-s-book-brigade
I just finished reading Jackie. It's fiction, but written much more like a memoir from Jackie Kennedy's perspective. I'm a huge Kennedy buff anyway, but this was an amazing book.
highly recommend if you like twisty thrillers that are a bit different https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/57628810-56-days
Oh! This one looks really good too. I love historical fiction and I have read much about the Kennedys yet, so this sounds good. Adding it to the list.
I really enjoyed We Begin At the End by this author, so I'm excited to see this one too. Thanks for the suggestion!
I love a good twisty thriller! AND bonus of all bonuses, it's available in my digital library right now... like NO waiting!
that like never happens! (i've learnt to suggest more international authors than aussie ones - this one's set in Ireland and the audio chic was Irish so it took me a bit but i actually really liked the accent in the end and made it feel a bit more authentic)
I am going to nominate The Change by Kirsten Miller. Big Little Lies meets The Witches of Eastwick—a gloriously entertaining and knife-sharp revenge fantasy about three women whose midlife crisis brings unexpected new powers—putting them on a collision course with the evil that lurks in their wealthy beach town.
In my IRL bookclub last month we were just talking about how few books there seems to be that highlight women in this stage of life. Everything I seem to read is about people between like 17-35. lol
