I love that your grandma taught you games. My dad is the game teacher in our family. My kids come home from school or friends’ houses with new ones too.

That’s fun you play Cards Against Humanity for new years. We usually pick the long games to play on New Years like Life and Monopoly. We got some new games for Christmas that we’re going to try this year. Hopefully they’re not too complex!

I was big into playing solitaire growing up especially on the computer but to be honest I never was much into card games growing up so don't know many. I know when I was volunteering as a play volunteer at a local hospital, the kids were the one teaching me how to play games rather than the other way around.

My sister and I played mostly Crazy 8s, Slap Jack and War growing up. Then in college, I had a group of friends who all played pinochle. When my kids were little, I carried a pack of Uno cards everywhere and we would play at restaurants while waiting for food to arrive and times like that. I was into Killer Rabbits for a bit but can't find anyone who loves it like I do. :D Occassionally play Cribbage with my (Canadian) hubby or Spades with friends. I think with the ready availability of online entertainment, playing card games is getting less common.

That's my perception anyway. Don't you think they're very similar? Eights are wild cards and you take turns putting cards down as long as the suit or number match. Uno just adds more to it with the reverse and skip and draw two cards.

I'm curious if you'd find it in a google search. I may look it up too. I've never met anyone else who knew it. I wonder if my sister made it up. :lol2

Update: I did look it up and didn't have to go further than the google result page to see my sister did not invent it! I haven't read the entire directions, but the photos look just like what we did.

Do you enjoy playing cards? YES! I love playing card games! I'm excited because we will be playing some for our new years eve get together!

When’s the last time you played a card game? If digital games count then, last night right before bed.

What are your favorite card games? PUSH, SKYJO and FLUXX are a few favorites!

What are your least favorite card games? I don't really know?! Maybe Magic because I don't understand how to play. My son always tries to get me to play it LOL!

I love to play cards and get together with one of my sisters and my parents every Wednesday to play Sets and Runs and Saskatchewan Rummy. Here at home we play Exploding Kittens, Anomia, and Bears vs Babies. We used to play a lot of Ligretto. When we have lots of people over, we play Uno or Apples to Apples (kind of a card game). We just got What do you Meme for Christmas.

Card games are a lot of fun! I do digital solitaire a lot around the holidays, because there’s always a couple of versions in our digital Advent calendar.

Husband’s parents, and the private school he attended until high school, banned card games, so he’s not a fan and seldom plays. But he and my daughter did a LOT of Uno and a version of Old Maid with Angelina Ballerina cards. I guess it was “okay” if the cards weren’t actually a suited deck of cards. ‍♀️

In my family, my parents played cards with their friends, so I grew up with cards. Slap Jack, rummy, gin, poker, Phase 10, euchre. There was a time in middle school where I always had a deck of cards with me.

Euchre is a pretty big thing in the US Midwest - sort of a version of Bridge, but slightly less involved. It has suits and hands, trumps and other machinations. I don’t think I was ever formally taught how to play - my Dad would say, “Let’s play Euchre!” and I would have to question everything. About the time I figured it out, we were done for the evening.

Once, my parents were invited to my in-laws for a Christmas meal. My Dad, thinking all adults over the age of 50 played cards, suggested that we play Euchre. I wish phone cameras had been a thing then as my in-laws not only played - but knew how!!! Sadly, no evidence (and they would deny it ever happened now without a photo.)

Learning from kids is a great way to learn! My daughter and I tried to learn Rook by reading the rules and it was rough.

It’s definitely less common with everything online now. I’m not familiar with pinochie, killer rabbits or cribbage.

Our family (including the kids) plays Canasta - my inlaws play and my MIL plays with friends in several card games weekly. My husband is a poker player and has a weekly game too at rotating homes. We have one set of friends we play Hand and Foot with (which is a watered down version of Canasta - less paying attention and consequences if you lose count of the cards LOL) so you can socialize more.

Yes I think they’re very similar.

I haven’t googled it yet but I might tonight if we need more games to play before midnight!

That’s fun you play every Wednesday! I’d love to do a weekly or even monthly game night. I grew up playing sets and runs and liked it.

I’ll have to look up the different variations of Rummy. I think I’ve played but I’m not sure which variation I’ve played. DH claims I make up my own roles for every game we play lol

Thanks for the brief intro to Euchre.

That story about your in-laws playing cards is too good! I wish you’d had a phone camera too! ;)

That’s fun you all play. I’ve played Hand and Foot but it’s been so long I don’t remember it at all. I do appreciate a game that allows for socializing and playing. ;) I don’t want to think too hard lol
