-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi everyone and welcome to Week 4 of the October Muse Challenge. This week we are finishing up our Muse with the element Water.

North: element of Earth, bearer of stability and protection.
East: element of Air, bearer of insight and wisdom.
South: element of Fire, bearer of action and will.
West: element of Water, bearer of intuition and emotion.

Week 4: Water | intuition, emotion, feminine
Without water no life would exist on planet Earth, no rain, no oceans, no rivers, no vegetation, no animals and list goes on. Our bodies are also composed primarily of water and we need to drink it to constantly replenish them. As such, water is vital in a great many ways that enable us to survive at the most basic level.

Like the other elements already discussed, water can be a paradox as well, it can be gentle, serene and uplifting or turn into a destructive and raging storm. Water gives us life but it can also take our life as well.

Water is also a reflection of the emotions we go through, from the buoyancy of being happy down to the deep despair of feeling sad or feeling the stormy waves of helplessness or anger. However, don’t forget that water is also a feminine element so it represents the power that is present within all women, the core of resilience under the soft exterior.

Lao Tzu said it best: “Water is fluid, soft, and yielding. But water will wear away rock, which is rigid and cannot yield. As a rule, whatever is fluid, soft, and yielding will overcome whatever is rigid and hard. This is another paradox: what is soft is strong.

Characteristics of Water: passive, feminine, intuition, serenity, healing

Water signs: Pisces, Cancer, Scorpio

Water colours: Blue, aqua, gold

Art Journaling Keywords: emotions, feelings, feminine, the subconscious, imagination, dream, intuition, healing, cleansing, spirituality, serenity

Art Journaling Prompts:
I created a board this week to house the many water/emotion related prompts I found on Pinterest.

Challenge for Week 4:
General theme of this week’s challenge is about your own feelings in regards to what water means to you, how it correlates to your own emotions. You can immerse yourself as deep as you like, and as always, personal journaling can be included and hidden a under a layer of paint or something else.

Use any of the art journaling pictures, prompts or keywords appearing above for your inspiration this week, or go with your own idea. Totally up to you! You do however need to use ONE of the colours shown in the colour palette above.

My layout:
The first quote on the AJ Prompts board was the starting point for my page. It made me think of all of those times in my life when I have felt down-trodden and under-valued, sad and lonely. In each instance after working out why I was feeling like that, I realised that it was my own self that was the culprit, it was me that was keeping myself down.

When I started thinking differently about the situation I found I had the power to pull myself up once again. Of course that doesn't mean I am not ever going to feel like that again, perhaps I should print this page out and stick it on my wall so it's a constant reminder that I have power to rise back to the top whenever I want to. :)

Credits are in the gallery.

You may create any style of layout (ie. clean and simple, artsy, pocket style etc.) you wish, with or without a photo. This is for everyone, so have fun and see where the inspiration takes you. Please make sure to read the challenge rules in pink above!:)

Please post your layout to the Art Journaling Gallery HERE prior to Midnight EST October 31, 2022 and then post it in this thread by copying the code (at the right of your gallery image) from the box under "Share BB Code".

We will draw a winner at the beginning of next month for a coupon!! Every layout you create is equal to one entry in the random draw. So if you create 1 layout you are entered once, if you create 4 layouts you are entered 4 times. :)

You can use any products in The Lilypad store or retired products from current Lilypad designers, (just make sure you follow our gallery guidelines).

Over to you my creative ladies, looking forward to seeing what you all come up with!

Such wonderful inspiration here! Ona (and Lisa) such wonderful springboards to spark our creativity. Love all of the inspo pictures and the phrases, too. I'll be working on my page today.

Here is mine! The ocean is always so life-giving and soothing to me!

Thanks so much! I wasn't sure if we were going to do that, but then I saw yours. LOL It would be nice if I could type - "weejs" Hahaha :crazy3

Ona's quote board is fabulous! :beat

I am surprised my water layout came out with such neutral colors. The photo pulled me in though - my husband captured it this week while at work.

I hope all enjoyed exploring the archaic or classical elements as much as I have. There is a Wikipedia article about them here. I enjoy reading and learning about early humans - I ponder often how we have become what we are today. The classical elements are an example of early mindsets - how many cultures perceived earth, air, wind, and fire as being the only elements...or the elements that gave birth to all else. It is amazing to think about how far we have come with science...and how much further we have yet to go. A thousand years from now, we will be the ones with archaic thinking and science.

Here are my four elements put together for the month.

I have finished my page. I created the background and then had the hardest time getting anything else going. But I did it and got the whole month done this time.

It was another great month. I almost didn't participate but I am glad I did all four weeks.
