I'm always impressed when someone knows more than one or two languages. I feel like one language is hard enough to learn! So tell me, how many languages do you know?

I'm definitely not fluent in anything other than English, but I have "practiced" two other languages: German (three years in high school), and Portuguese (through Duolingo).

I took French in high school and learned a little German when my husband was stationed in Germany, but I've long forgotten most of what I learned. Although I still remember the first phrase soldiers learned upon arrival in Germany: "Ein bier bitte."

One of the first words I learned in Duolingo was beer haha apparently it’s an important word to know!

I took 2 years of Spanish in high school, but only remember enough to pick out a few words here and there. I spent a couple of months in Montreal in the early 90s for a work project and started a French class there, but I quickly dropped out since what they were teaching wasn't the most relevant for the basic survival skills I wanted. LOL

Because I have some years in French, I can understand some of Spanish. Plus, when working in restaurants, many of my coworkers spoke Spanish so I learned some. Usually swear words though!

That’s fun you had a work project in Montreal! It’s too bad the class wasn’t helpful for you while there.

I definitely read Portuguese better than I speak it. My kids all make fun of my pronunciation…

I took 4 years of Spanish in High School and was president of the Spanish Club. I can pick out words and phrases here and there, and read some with context clues. But mostly I can say "Dónde está el baño?" (Where's the bathroom?)

Three years of French in high school. I can remember a dialogue as well as a poem I memorized for a competition at our local university. I can't really converse or remember much of anything beyond that.

- I started learning English at second grade, for ten years. Nowadays I write and read better than I speak.
- I took German at high school for 5 five years, and only remember a heavy metal song I had memorized back then!
- I have a BA in Italian Language.
- In uni, I took Spanish for 2 years. I can only read now, and to be honest I don't like how this language sounds.
- I'd love to learn French, but I just can't go back to school, I feel too old!

I only fluently know English. Well, I took Latin for 7 years but it's not a spoken language so I feel like it doesn't count. Though it is useful for roots and piecing together bits of the Romance languages. I love languages and wish I knew more of them. When I can carve out a little time I think I'd love to learn another.

I only know English since in high school I took 2 years of classes in a "dead" language. I wanted to take French but Mom insisted on Latin. The only thing I remember is "veni, vidi, vici" aka "I came, I saw, I conquered".

My friends all took Spanish in high school and they probably only remember the cuss words haha

Your knowledge of multiple languages is very impressive! I hope you figure out a way to learn French that works for you.

I know ASL up to about a 6-year-old level.
And my kids have all taken Latin in middle school & High School & since I'm their homeschooling mother....I've learned along with them.

I really wish I would have learned another language as a child....so much easier!

It's amazing to me how quick children learn a new language!
