Those are totally not tacky at all! They are beautiful! Grab a silver gel pen and add some words! You are good to go! Now, if you want tacky check this out: Rice Krispies and Fruit by the Foot. I'm a believer in to each their own, but this one? Seems a little tacky in more ways than one!
Sadly, you also pay a price for Vegas. Have you considered asking St. George area? It might be a drive, but if you really have your heart set on a wedding cake, it might save you bank. Also, check out online through Walmart or Costco, or whoever. We ordered a really cute cake for a birthday from Walmart online that was not advertised in the store. You could also buy 1 tier that's custom and pretty and then layer it next to a few cheaper rounds from the grocery store.
Those are gorgeous, Susie!! I think a sheet cake would be perfect for your celebration! When we think of sheet cakes, possibly our minds go back to the baby/bridal showers we used to attend. LOL They're not like that anymore. We had a beautiful sheet cake for my parent's anniversary party and one of the big grocery chain stores made it to our specifications. My DD just priced a birthday cake for my grandson's 11th party and she nearly choked at the price!!
ok - I feel much better now!!!!! I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit. I shudder to think what is inside the Rice Crispies!
i am checking out Albertsons, WalMart, Vins, Smiths, and Costco this week. They have custom cakes and they are not that expensive!
Congratulations on 25!! I think it's lovely you are doing a celebration. Your examples are beautiful! I think they are perfect! No one will bat an eye or think it was a decision based on price. Not tacky at all! I also like the option of a mini tiered cake if you really want that, but then cupcakes for serving (if it turns out to be affordable). We did cupcakes for the gluten free people at my son's wedding and it was still pricey though, so it really may not be viable.
We got married 25 years ago and the cakes we got back then cost about $500. I look back on it and regret that. We should have spent the money on a photographer instead. We had videographer but only a few personal photos that people took. I'll never spend that kind of money again on cake.
The only money I don't regret spending is on the photographer. Everything else I would do definitely. (I'd keep David too.)
A sheet cake is definitely not tacky at all. You could do fun little cupcakes instead and add some cupcake toppers that are wedding themed to make them fancy. I did a tutorial for "Summer School" here a month ago or so. They could be like mini wedding cakes and save you bunches of money!! Congratulations on 25 years too.
Congrats on 25 years! I think a sheet cake is absolutely acceptable for an anniversary celebration. If you really want to have a tiered cake, consider purchasing different size rounds and layering them on top of one another or layer a round on top of a sheet cake. It's amazing what footed plates can do as well. If you have different heights of cake plates clustered together, you could get a few round cakes (with a variety of fillings but the same frosting/flowers) and group them.
Congratulations on 25 years! The cakes you found look beautiful. I don't think a sheet cake is tacky at all. Crazy how much a wedding cake goes for.
That is what our cake was like 25 years ago - as a mistake and I loved it!!!! It was supposed to be 5 layers ( no tier columns) with the backs lined up so they looked like graduated stair steps with flowers cascading down … like this : When we arrived, it was spread out on the entire cake table on mirrored pillars. The cake was at least what we ordered, but the presentation was not. I really think the florist ran out of flowers because they were pretty sparse! I liked it so much better the way they did it!! I found the cake we are going with. 1/2 sheet 1 layer chocolate and the other vanilla with strawberry cream frosting inside. Cost out the door? 30.00 plus tax. We will do silver instead of gold and our cake topper will be in the top corner. And these are our flowers for the altar at church. I’m excited - I hope I’m not boring anyone!
I wish we had hired a photographer we didn’t know. He was my brother’s housemate and just getting started. His pictures were technically good, but lacked originality and all our pictures were pretty formal.
I know it’s crazy. Just for kicks I priced the sheet cake I showed in Cheryl’s answer and the wedding cake vendor was going to charge me 164.00 for the same exact cake I’m getting for 30. The mark up is insane. Especially being in vegas.
