December Celebrations | Pad Patter 12.2

December is full of holidays....they are everywhere, some December holidays gear and decorations show up in September, October and November by me! The super early is annoying to me for businesses, but to each his own at home. :)

So my question stems from Holidays.... are they any days in December that you celebrate that are not related to the Holidays?

We celebrate my son's birthday, December 7. This year he is 17. I'm not quite ready for the driving thing... I'm a bit scared about it honestly. Then I read a book recently from Kristin Hannah that totally scared me more. Ugh.

Plus, I can't believe he's 17. :( These teen years have been my most favorite! I'm dreading him getting older and going to college.

We didn't decorate for Christmas before his birthday for many years. I wanted separation for him to celebrate and then the holidays.

What about you? Birthdays? Anniversaries? Big Milestones?
 
We are celebrating our 26th wedding anniversary in a couple of weeks. We’re not doing anything big since things are locking back down travel wise but hopefully we can go to dinner and spend time together. If this pandemic ever ends, we’ll go on our trip to Hawaii that got canceled in March 2020.
 
We celebrate a bunch of birthdays in December ... my youngest sister turned 50 yesterday. Given that she's 18 years younger than me, I'm really old, LOL!!! My sister-in-law has a birthday on the 8th. My BIL and my oldest grandson's mom celebrate their birthdays on the 10th. My father will be 93 on the 12th. He's in decent health for his age and still practices law full-time. Then I have a niece, a nephew and a friend celebrating their birthdays just before Christmas.

Oh, another nephew and his wife will be celebrating their 1st wedding anniversary this month.
 
I honor my father on the 1st since that was his birthday. I usually go to visit his grave although I didn't make it yesterday since it was rainy and I have a sinus infection. Weather is going to be much better today so I plan to stop by after going to the grocery. Then on the 26th, I visit the cemetery again since that is the day Mom passed away. This year is 25 years.

So no, I don't really celebrate anything happy in December, not even Christmas. Probably why I dislike this season so much.

I hope you get to Hawaii soon! That will be an amazing trip!!! Happy almost Anniversary! We are on 20 years next year! Does it seem like time is flying for you too? All of a sudden 20 years have passed? And 25 for you!!! Dinner is a must if no travel! I'm hoping for a Broadway show for 20 years! We did that recently, and I realized how much I've missed the city.

Your family sounds like mine - A couple of my aunts and uncles are closer to my age than my parents ages! Such large families! Lots of December birthdays for your family! Holy moly! My son is now just the one, my uncle passed but his birthday was the 25th! Your Dad is chugging along nicely, same for my grandmother - she's 99. She doesn't drive, but has all her faculties and is doing really well!

I hope you find something positive during your visits. Maybe a cardinal or something to signify they know your visiting. Feel better.

Yep, it's gone by fast! I can't believe it's been almost 26 years and our son is 24. How can I have a 24 year old... I'm feeling old. :giggle
 
Most everything this month has something to do with Christmas. No birthdays or other celebrations.

We'll be putting up our decorations in the next few days. On Sunday, we'll go to my mom's and get her decorations out of the attic and put up her tree. My MIL keeps her tree up year round and changes the decorations with the seasons, so we don't have to worry about putting up her tree, too.

We started watching Christmas movies last night. Our opener was Home Alone. We won't watch a movie every single night, but a lot of our favorites will be watched over the next couple of weeks.

We'll have Cookie Day at my mom's about a week before Christmas, to make fudge and then all the cookies and candies that we share with family. We'll have chili night at my MIL's, unless she cancels this year.
 
And as far as anniversaries, we just had our 28th at the end of October, but we haven't celebrated it yet. I'm hoping that by the time we have our 30th, we'll be able to go somewhere and do something.

There are only 4 of us girls ... three of us were born in 5½ years, then there's a nearly 13 year gap between #3 and #4. Gayle is only 19 months older than my son, and I had three grandkids before she had her first child. But yes, a lot of December birthdays. We used to have two family parties ... "early December b'days" and "late December b'days." But haven't done that in a number of years.
 
My youngest nephew is birthday twins with your son Jenn! He's on the 7th and then my sister's oldest son was born on Christmas day, so we always do regular Christmas and then his birthday celebration in the afternoon all on Christmas day. Otherwise, everything is all about Christmas for us this month.
 
It was always the end of the school year, that occurred early December.
My Mom's birthday was the 8th, my B-I-L's is on the 16th - which is also a public holiday, 22 is a good family friend, 23rd is S-I-L's birthday.

Our holiday to London has been cancelled so no travel plans.
 
My granddaughter's birthday is December 13 :) She will be 3 this year! Not sure what the plans are for this year. They always have to look for a really big place to celebrate because my SIL's family is HUGE and they all attend everything!!
 
My daughter’s birthday is December 31, New Year’s Eve. When she was younger we would end up having little girl slumber parties instead of champagne to celebrate the New Year. Her friend’s parent loved us since they go free babysitting on the holiday!

I don't really do much for it, but I'm always highly aware of winter solstice and excited about it, because it means the days begin lengthening again.
 
None really over here. Our last birthday here is early November and I don't have any to think about until March! Woohoo.

One thing that happens every December is a piano recital. It's not really Christmas related...just a winter recital. But it's become some a regular thing in December that it feels like a Christmas thing.

So far I have 2 kids driving and I've loved it...but they are girls, so I don't know if it will feel different when my boys start driving! I do get nervous when it's raining or they are "going over the mountain". I am glad that my oldest decided to commute to college (at least for now - it's only a 35 minute drive). I'm not ready for her to move out. She's 19...and I'm not ready. Well, okay, maybe some days I am. Haha. But for the most part I'm not.
 
My youngest child has a birthday in late December--she'll be 13 this year! My parents' wedding anniversary is Christmas Eve, so pre-pandemic they used to come visit us that week and we celebrated their anniversary and Lauren's birthday. (No Christmas celebration--a "traditional Jewish Christmas" means the movies and Chinese food.) They don't feel safe taking any form of public transportation down to us now, so we may go up to see them over Winter Break--it depends what transmission rates are looking like then since none of us want to risk exposing them.

In November 2019 my husband and I did a belated trip to Disney for our 20th anniversary. (Anniversary was in 2018, but my parents had some health things going on then and couldn't watch our kids so we did a family trip in 2018.) Our 25th will be in 2023, and I wonder if we'll be able to do anything. I have a feeling we'll need to do another family trip with the kids.

As for driving, I think so much depends on your child. My oldest has his permit. He's such a responsible, cautious kid that teaching him to drive hasn't been nearly as nerve-wracking as I thought it would be. He just got his first 2 college acceptance letters this week--I'm not ready!
 
We had our anniversary in October and my birthday, then for Nov and Dec there are no celebrations except for Xmas stuff.
