Do you host Thanksgiving or travel?

We are hosting this year for just our little family. The big kids are coming home from college and my hubby is smoking a turkey and I'm making all the other thanksgiving fixings.

Neither.

Growing up my parents and I traveled 90 minutes to her sister's home. That was a tradition for over 35 years in the family (except the year my grandma was sick and died the next day). Then it got to be too much with cousins having their own families/in-laws so it was just my parents and I at home. For a few years we would enjoy a few hours at my dad's brother's home in the evening. Then Mom got sick and it was too much for her.

After she died and Dad moved, I would sometimes go to that uncle's home but even they stopped having the gatherings about 20 years ago. So since then I've just fixed myself a meal here at home and did what I wanted on the day.

Only thing different was it being a day off during the week when I was working. These days, just another day.

I have been hosting since around 2008. We've almost always had friends join us, several different ones. It's my favorite holiday because the focus is on spending time with family & friends, feasting, and gratitude.

We're traveling this year - right up the hill to our daughter's house. We're actually helping, but we're taking the food to their house. We traveled for years to my parents and we had our share of hosting. I'm just glad I'm not having to get on a plane!!!

This year we are traveling about 30 min down the road to my son's new house. I'm excited about that!! We went to my mom's for years, and my ex-in-laws. Then when I married my current husband, we traveled 10 hours to northern IN. We did that for several years until they passed and then I started hosting. We have also taken off for the beach a few times. They are doing most of the cooking, and I'm taking green bean casserole and mac & cheese :)

Going to my Mama's this year. She's only 5 minutes away. Tomorrow is Pie Day, so we'll be baking pies, brining the turkey, and prepping all the sides.

We had Thanksgiving with Jay's mom on Sunday the 14th because everyone is traveling to their in-laws. She's 5 minutes away, but in the other direction.

I'm so glad that we don't have to travel.

We always have Thanksgiving at my sister's (who is local). This will be the first time her MIL and my boyfriend are joining us so it should be an interesting time.

Neither. We live too far from our family and I do not like traveling during holiday season. A few years ago my mom flew up to spend Thanksgiving with us. It was nice and we had fun, but for me the less people, the better. The 4 of us tend to chill, make dinner together, and then spend the evening watching movies or playing card/board games.

we don't have Thanksgiving here. When it comes to Christmas and Easter we normally go to either mine or my husband's parents. I've only hosted once.

We always host because we have more room for more people at our house and because my parents live 15 minutes away from me and my sister lives 3.5 hours away. She has to do the driving to come here and I make the food. It's a win in my book. :giggle We actually host 2 times. We host my hubby's family on Thanksgiving day (Thursday) and then my sister always comes to stay from Friday through the weekend and we do something with our parents on Saturday. I love that it's always the same general plan, so we don't have to figure a new plan out each year. :agree

We go to my mom's. About 15 minutes away. Although they are moving into a much smaller home this weekend! I'm not sure what we'll do. It'll probably be here since we have the most room. Which I don't mind. I like having people here. We all gather here on Christmas Eve and it's my fave.

This year the older girls have a few friends staying for the Thanksgiving weekend. So that should be fun...and noisy and lots of late nights. Haha!

WOW, you're the hosting queen! I wish I like hosting more, but it stresses me out!

Just up the hill is my kind of traveling... :giggle I'm glad I'm not getting on a plane this year either.

Taking off to the beach sounds nice, although I don't want to drive or fly that far. We've done Thanksgiving at Disneyland 2 or 3 times and that's fun. The parks are pretty empty Thanksgiving morning through late afternoon, so you can get in lots of rides. Then, we've gone to Goofy's Kitchen for Thanksgiving dinner. I wonder how Disneyland is this year with the pandemic still going? The last time we did a Disneyland Thanksgiving was in 2019, so Star Wars land was open, but thankfully no pandemic.

A 5 minute commute and pie day sounds divine! Wish I was closer so I could crash your pie day... :giggle! I love pie!

Watching movies and playing card/board games are my favorite part of the Holidays. I'm a good cook but don't enjoy cooking. I'd rather play games and watch movies any day! :giggle

You're a trooper hosting 2 Thanksgivings. Just thinking about that makes me tired and stressed. :imok

Sounds like your place is the place to be... noisy late nights make the holidays fun!
