Retired Product Organisation

So you just put the letter with no hyphen in front of the kit name? I use the hyphen between the letter z and the kit name so that the kit name is more easily readable... and Kristin has a kit called Zoo Day so just using z- sorts before the kit. So I use zz- for her few retired kits I have.
Yep, because the kit is first the designers name. So, Kristin's kit would be xKAagard_ZooDay. That sorts it to the bottom, and so far, I haven't bought from an x, y, z designer so it doesn't cause a problem.

I see the difference now. I put all my kits in folders by the kit name...without the designer name since they are in a folder for the designer. Makes the path of the folders a lot shorter. I've had problems in the past with some designers and how they name their files. Trying to unzip them gives me errors since the path name is way too long so I try to make the path as short as possible.

I even rename the previews to just the designer initial and kit name although I do not rename papers or elements. That's way too much work! LOL Some designers just use the "folder" for the preview which is fine for the kit folder but not for the preview I put in the designer folder. That's where I use the initials and kit name. And, some designers just use abbreviations in their naming so the preview is where I have it in full so it sorts alphabetically.

Are you tagging OLD stuff, or starting with new purchases? I ask because I was going to suggest to Jennifer @littlekiwi to start tagging new items and worry about older kits once she has a system, kind of like how you have a system in place.
Both. I'm trying to make sure I tag the new stuff first. But if I go looking for a specific kit then I tag that too.

This I do also, if there's not a preview with the name and kit name (Like Pink Reptile always has it in her extras folders where her TOU is). But I leave it at the designers name how they name it.

I know what you mean about the path limit, it's 260 characters for Windows. It's rare that I have an issue with that, and I haven't at TLP at all, so I don't take the time to rename everything. I've only had it with a beginning designer's freebies. I'm guessing they learn quickly how to fix that issue.
When I first started, I renamed a few kit previews, but then couldn't find the kit a paper or element belonged to, so I decided it was easier to just leave it the way it's named overall. I do rename sometimes when I combine bundles together. Like sometimes the extra papers or whatever have the same name and number as something in the kit. So I'll change the number from paper (2) to paper (12) or whatever.

It's interesting to see how different people organize to make it work for them!

I just had the name problem with "Fiddlesticks No 78 by Fiddle-Dee-Dee Designs" when I tried to unzip with the default folder name by the zip. Had to shorten the unzip folder destination to get it done.

I hate it when additional papers have the same names (i.e. numbers) as the papers in the original kit. I do rename those as well usually starting with the next number after the last one in the original kit.

One of the previews that I changed the name on was a kit (now retired) by Bella Gypsy. It was their I Love You 100 kit and they named everything using "bellagypsy_ily100_xxxx". I had named the folder I Love You 100 so for the preview to sort the same as the folder, I changed the preview to the full kit name. Although I do shorten all Bella Gypsy previews to bg-"kit name". I tend to use an abbreviation for all the designers. For example, BG=Bella Gypsy, KA=Kristen Aagard, FJ=Forever Joy, SWL=Scrapping With Liz. On my tracking spreadsheet I just record things like KA Zoo Day and I know it was Kristin's kit, Zoo Day that I used for the layout. A template is the same... FDD All Smiles 1 would be Cheryl's All Smiles template #1.

Took me a few years to get to this method but it works for me!

Until now, I thought the MOC rule about retired products applied to all TLP challenges. Now that I know otherwise, I may change my system a little. But here's how I usually do it. My TLP products are all in folders named TLP_Designer_Kit. When a designer retires (or when a current designer retires a product) I remove the TLP before their name. That way I don't see the kit when I'm specifically looking for things from TLP. (At stores where retired kits are allowed, I don't remove the store's initials from the folder name.)

But I also have collabs that I bought in other stores that are sold here, and I need a way to keep those with my MOC materials. For that reason, I have a slightly different system for MOC. One day I went through my TLP visual history and saved every preview in an MOC Previews folder. Then I looked through my folders for any collabs with TLP designers and checked if the kit was still in the store. If so, I copied it to the MOC Previews folder. Now when I unzip something from TLP, I immediately put a copy in the MOC Previews folder. Before MOC starts I go through the previews and delete any materials that aren't eligible any longer.
