I randomly heard a story about a friend who bought banana sauce. I was intrigued, so when I went to the store, I decided to pick some up. It's like ketchup. It has more flavor than just tomatoes, and yes, even though it's red, there is some banana flavoring to it, but not a lot to me.

So I wondered, Have you picked up a random food item just to try? Did you like it?

Well, I just purchased Quark, a soft cheese, at our German Gourmet store. I guess it wasn't random but I happened upon a recipe yesterday that had it listed in the ingredients, so now I don't have to go find a substitute. Not too random, but I never would've purchased it otherwise.

I know I have spontaneously purchased things that looked interesting, but my husband is more adventurous than that. He once came home from a business trip to Arizona and came back with lollipops that had a scorpion in it. As in a dead insect. Needless to say they didn't eat them, but he did!

I love purchasing random cheeses! I bought a savory cheddar this week and it's fabulous in sandwiches!
What does Quark taste like? And, what dish is it for?

I have no idea what it tastes like, so I'll let you know when I open it up! Here's the recipe, gluten-free Lucia buns (saffron buns - photo is linked to the recipe). I really, REALLY hope this recipe turns out because making GF bread is so tricky. Santa Lucia day is the 13th and it's a traditional food to be served in Sweden on that day. I used to love making regular ones in the past. I hope this recipe turns out, because there is NOTHING like the taste of freshly baked saffron buns!

My husband likes to try new things, but never processed ones - more likely to be a strange fish or an exotic fruit/veg. Our free weekly food parcel can sometimes have strange random things in it that we've never seen or heard of before. We then have to search the internet for preparation and cooking instructions.

I buy red and green pepper jelly, at Christmas time, to serve on crackers along with my baked brie.

I bought 'Quorn' a while ago to substitute into bolognese sauce & the kids didn't notice (it's a meat alternative) - DH knew ahead of time & was sceptical but surprised - we'd use it more often if it wasn't more expensive than ground beef/mince

Golly, I am very ordinary- buy the same stuff.
I am horrid about trying new things.
I do like trying new cleaning things! Hahs

My sister served it on a bowl of cottage cheese when we needed a quick lunch while working on a project. I thought, “Are you nuts!” Now it is my go-to way to eat cottage cheese. Delish! Costco stocks a nice jar of the red pepper jelly at Christmas.

an exotic fruit/veg.
We try all the different melons during the summer. Not many exotic vegs here though. I do like when we go to a Farmer's Market and try something new!

Those look so pretty!

I'm not positive what mince is. But yes, meat replacement products are always more expensive than regular meat. We haven't tried many for that reason.

That sounds yummy! I also love applesauce and cottage cheese.

@bestcee mince is ground beef, I think you guys call it hamburger? It looks like the meat you would find in sausages.
We use mince in spaghetti bolognaise, lasagna, cottage pie etc

I generally stick to tried and true stuff because of food intolerances.

The last new product I had was about a year ago, I ordered Light Peach Iced Tea in my online grocery order and for what ever reason ended up with Lightly Sweetened Peach & Nectarine Iced Tea instead.....it was horrible so I stopped buying iced tea for a bit. Fast forward maybe a month and I had said to my mum if the light iced tea is out of stock don’t get the lightly sweetened one, it’s horrible. One day she bought it home, I said that’s horrible, she tried it, agreed with me and 3/4’s of a bottle got thrown out and it was never purchased again.

I do like to try new things, once I bought an icelandic dessert named Skyr flavored with salt and caramel sauce, and I really liked the taste.

I like to try new things to eat. I find fun new recipes that look good, but my biggest problem is figuring how what on earth some of the ingredients even are and where to find them in the store. :giggle

Banana sauce is something I've never heard of. I wonder if we have it here?

I found it at Kroger in Indiana, in the Asian/ethnic aisle. So, there's a chance? If not, apparently Asian stores carry it?

Gotcha! I thought ground beef was different from mince!
