I'm borrowing Courtney's fast 5 format again:luvya - feel free to play along and i'll be back with my answers after i chauffeur my DD in to town

1. Do you like the name you are known by ? Is it different to the name on your birth certificate?
2a. Do you have a name that is easily pronounced or spelled/spelt wrong?
2b. Do you bother correcting people anymore?
3. Have you ever given a different name at coffee shops or pizza places, anywhere you might collect an order?
4. Have you ever changed your name (first or last names? marriage included and were you happy to change it?) or would you, and is there a name you'd prefer?

1. Do you like the name you are known by ? Is it different to the name on your birth certificate? I like it - there was a time when I didn't - when I was a teenager - I wanted my name to be Teri. No idea why. Just my first name is the same as on my birth certificate.
2a. Do you have a name that is easily pronounced or spelled/spelt wrong? Mispronounced quite a lot and misspelled all the time.
2b. Do you bother correcting people anymore? No, I never was one to correct people on misprouncing/misspelling my name unless it was for a legal document, of course.
3. Have you ever given a different name at coffee shops or pizza places, anywhere you might collect an order? If I give them my name, they usually write "Carol or Sheri or Sharon" I just watch (at coffee shops) to see what name they write down, so I know when my order is ready.
4. Have you ever changed your name (first or last names? marriage included and were you happy to change it?) or would you, and is there a name you'd prefer? My last name has changed and I legally changed my middle name to my maiden name. I wish now that I had kept my maiden name, but that "wasn't done" back in the old days.

1. Do you like the name you are known by ? Is it different to the name on your birth certificate? My full name is Janice. I like it ok, I guess. I haven't always, but I was named after my aunt who passed away at 22, so it has special significance.
2a. Do you have a name that is easily pronounced or spelled/spelt wrong? For some reason, when I tell people my name, they want to write Jane. Not sure what's up with that, maybe I say it weird? lol
2b. Do you bother correcting people anymore? I'm more likely to correct people now than I was when I was younger
3. Have you ever given a different name at coffee shops or pizza places, anywhere you might collect an order? It never really crosses my mind to give a different name until after the fact when I think of something funny I could have said.
4. Have you ever changed your name (first or last names? marriage included and were you happy to change it?) or would you, and is there a name you'd prefer? I have changed my last name twice, 2 different marriages. But if I could go back and do things differently, I would have never changed it to begin with. I would have always kept my maiden name.

1. Do you like the name you are known by ? Is it different to the name on your birth certificate? It's okay I guess- a little common but I never wanted to change it.Same as BC only married last name now.
2a. Do you have a name that is easily pronounced or spelled/spelt wrong?
Lol... not pronounced wrong usually but ALWAYS spelled wrong. Most people who know me know it isnt AMY but end up putting I's & e's in random places! Sometime I get called Annie or Arnie which is weird...
2b. Do you bother correcting people anymore? Not really. Only if it matters for paperwork or something. I even had a grandpa who never spelled it right!
3. Have you ever given a different name at coffee shops or pizza places, anywhere you might collect an order?
No- although my sister & used to make up silly names when we would go out to dance clubs so no one would know our real names!
4. Have you ever changed your name (first or last names? marriage included and were you happy to change it?) or would you, and is there a name you'd prefer?
I changed my last name when I married. I was happy to change it but it was sorta a pain in the rear. We have one bill that still comes to me in my maiden name (been married for 13 years!) since they basically wanted my 1st born to change it- so I never did. Lol

1. Do you like the name you are known by? Is it different to the name on your birth certificate? No, I've always wanted a different name. I go by the first name on my BC. I'm especially salty about my middle name. My mom's middle name is Anne, and they left off the E on mine. Now everybody knows that Ann with an E looks much nicer and is more distinguished. :giggle
2a. Do you have a name that is easily pronounced or spelled/spelt wrong? It always makes me giggle that it is constantly mispronounced and misspelled. My last name was worse...maiden name spelled & pronounced just like a city in TX, always would say it that way and married name is worse.
2b. Do you bother correcting people anymore? Usually not. My grandfather used to write my name Liza and pronounce it Leeza. It drove me crazy, but now it makes me laugh.
3. Have you ever given a different name at coffee shops or pizza places, anywhere you might collect an order? No
4. Have you ever changed your name (first or last names? marriage included and were you happy to change it?) or would you, and is there a name you'd prefer? Only when I married. I'm not sure what other first name I'd prefer now.

1. Do you like the name you are known by ? Is it different to the name on your birth certificate? I like my name that is now nearly 32 years old. Nope it’s the one from birth.
2a. Do you have a name that is easily pronounced or spelled/spelt wrong? First name is usually all ok but surname......I get McDonald, MacDonald, Mcdonald, Macdonald. I’ve now got to the point of saying McDonald, it’s written and spelled like the fast food chain.
2b. Do you bother correcting people anymore? Only correct it if it’s for long term records.
3. Have you ever given a different name at coffee shops or pizza places, anywhere you might collect an order? Nope
4. Have you ever changed your name (first or last names? marriage included and were you happy to change it?) or would you, and is there a name you'd prefer? I’m quite happy with it and if I marry would strongly consider keeping it or hyphenating it to keep the family name going (my generation is only 2 people and we are both female)

1. Do you like the name you are known by ? Is it different to the name on your birth certificate?
I'm known by the name my parents gave me.
I hate it being shortened to Angie. It makes me cringe. My mum called me that when she was being manipulative, and controlling etc. So I have negative/anxious feelings when people use it.
2a. Do you have a name that is easily pronounced or spelled/spelt wrong?
People generally get my name right, but it's fun listening to how Americans pronounce it though.
3. Have you ever given a different name at coffee shops or pizza places, anywhere you might collect an order?
no
4. Have you ever changed your name (first or last names? marriage included and were you happy to change it?) or would you, and is there a name you'd prefer?
Yes I changed my surname with marriage, and I'm happy with it.

1. Do you like the name you are known by ? Is it different to the name on your birth certificate?

I've accepted my name. Kind of neutral about it. Since I've been an adult it hasn't been an issue. I didn't like it as a kid because it was so common I never had a class where I was the only Michele. At least I have the less common spelling. But in my early grades classes, I even had to share that spelling and first initial of my last name with a classmate! So I had to write "Michele Ma" on my papers; she was "Michele Me"

2a. Do you have a name that is easily pronounced or spelled/spelt wrong?
2b. Do you bother correcting people anymore?

No pronunciation issues, but everyone spells it with 2 L's. If it's a situation where someone is about to write my name, I usually introduce myself as "Michele with one L." Otherwise, I don't care. If I were given a name tag or something like that with two L's, I'd just cross one out. I've been teased by friends/family a few times when they spell my name with around a dozen L's. It made me smile.

3. Have you ever given a different name at coffee shops or pizza places, anywhere you might collect an order?

No, because it's a common name and spelling doesn't matter in this case.

4. Have you ever changed your name (first or last names? marriage included and were you happy to change it?) or would you, and is there a name you'd prefer?

I happily changed my last name when I got married. I went from very common last name, Martin, to the much more interesting and unique, Kendzie. I'm easygoing, so the difficulty people have pronouncing Kendzie has simply amused me. Sometimes I point out that at least it's easier than the name from which it is derived. My husband's father shortened his last name in college from the original Polish name, Kendzierski. I just make a point of enunciating well whenever I need to give my last name, and speaking clearly as I spell it, emphasizing the Z. I usually say it like, "K-e-n-d (pause) Z-i-e." I really don't think it's difficult if you take the time to look at it, but some people must just glance at it because mispronunciations happen about half the time, including "MacKenzie" (Why do they add letters that aren't even there???) and "Ken-dee-zee" (mixing up the order of the letters).

1. Do you like the name you are known by ? Is it different to the name on your birth certificate? I love my name and it is the name on my Birth Certificate.. {it is the middle name when combined with the first I hate, as that meant I was in trouble.. LOL}
2a. Do you have a name that is easily pronounced or spelled/spelt wrong? My name is sometimes spelled wrong.. Sometimes it is spelled with a K or some people drop the a by accident...[ Mixed with my last name when I was in Customer service it was a mess... LOL as it I talk fast and people came out with lots of interpretations!]
2b. Do you bother correcting people anymore? I laugh as it doesn't matter anymore to me unless it is an important document
3. Have you ever given a different name at coffee shops or pizza places, anywhere you might collect an order? I shorten it to Chris at Starbucks.. it is easier that way.
4. Have you ever changed your name (first or last names? marriage included and were you happy to change it?) or would you, and is there a name you'd prefer? I changed my last name happily when I married, but on the internet I go by my maiden name.

1. Do you like the name you are known by ? Is it different to the name on your birth certificate? Yes. I am named after both of my grandmothers. My dad's mom hated her name - Carrie. She went by Juanita (her middle name). My mom always told her that if she had a daughter she was going to name her Carrie. My grandma hated that idea. She passed before I was born so my mom chose that name for me. My middle name is Hortense after my maternal grandmother. I didn't like my middle name as a child. But, now that she's passed, I appreciate that I have it. It's like I'll always have a little piece of both of them.

2a. Do you have a name that is easily pronounced or spelled/spelt wrong? I get my name spelled wrong all the time. It doesn't bother me though. Also, my maiden last name is a first name so I get called that a lot also. That's annoying.

2b. Do you bother correcting people anymore? If they call me by my last name, yes.

3. Have you ever given a different name at coffee shops or pizza places, anywhere you might collect an order? Nah

4. Have you ever changed your name (first or last names? marriage included and were you happy to change it?) or would you, and is there a name you'd prefer? No, I still technically have my maiden name as my last name. I was super pregnant when we got married and it was just not a priority back then. And, it's been 16 years now so....

1. Do you like the name you are known by? Is it different to the name on your birth certificate?
I've never had a problem with my name. I've shortened it from Janice to Jan after one of my teachers called me that and I really liked it. I've been Jan ever since. I think it fits me better. My parents named the three of us with two syllable first names and one syllable middle names.
2a. Do you have a name that is easily pronounced or spelled/spelt wrong? You'd think Jan would be a simple to get correct, but its amazing to watch people write "Jane" after I've spelled J-A-N to them. I also get Janet and Pam a lot.
2b. Do you bother correcting people anymore? I will continue correcting people until the day I die because I'm not those other people. lol!!!
3. Have you ever given a different name at coffee shops or pizza places, anywhere you might collect an order? My Starbucks name is June... Not joke. No matter where I go. Even when I've spelled out JAN.
4. Have you ever changed your name (first or last names? marriage included and were you happy to change it?) or would you, and is there a name you'd prefer?
I changed my last name after I got married. I'm glad I did because it made a lot of things easier, but it sure was a pain to do!

1. Do you like the name you are known by? It's fine. Is it different to the name on your birth certificate? Nope! .. but random fact, I was called Sheri Ann for the first dozen years of my life. Ann is my middle name and decided to just stick with my first name.
2a. Do you have a name that is easily pronounced or spelled/spelt wrong? Both my first and last names are misspelled often. My first name can be spelled so many ways: SH or CH, A or E, R or RR, I or IE or Y or EY (and any combination of those). I've seen it all!
2b. Do you bother correcting people anymore? It depends on what the circumstances are.
3. Have you ever given a different name at coffee shops or pizza places, anywhere you might collect an order? Nah
4. Have you ever changed your name (first or last names? marriage included and were you happy to change it?) or would you, and is there a name you'd prefer? I changed my last name when I got married. Everything else stayed the same.

1. Do you like the name you are known by ? Is it different to the name on your birth certificate? My friends call me Stef, my name is Stefanie
2a. Do you have a name that is easily pronounced or spelled/spelt wrong? The standard English spelling way is Stephanie so - yes, most times I just let it slide. The Afrikaans pronounciation ste-faan-i will elicit a response and correction from me every single time.
2b. Do you bother correcting people anymore? Depends on my mood.
3. Have you ever given a different name at coffee shops or pizza places, anywhere you might collect an order? Yes, Suzie is my go-to.
4. Have you ever changed your name (first or last names? marriage included and were you happy to change it?) or would you, and is there a name you'd prefer? Yes, my surname changed when I got married.

1. Do you like the name you are known by ? Is it different to the name on your birth certificate? Used to it after all these years and yes it is the one on my birth certificate. At one time in my life (high school over 45 years ago), I wished I could have been called by my middle name instead but since I had a cousin with that name, that wish never came to be. By college I was over it.
2a. Do you have a name that is easily pronounced or spelled/spelt wrong? Yes, it has been pronounced wrong and misspelled quite often. Even more so these days since more people are using unusual spellings. What bothers me though is when you are corresponding with someone and have your name written very clearly in the correspondence and they don't spell it right. Especially if it is a business relationship that you correspond with on a regular basis.
2b. Do you bother correcting people anymore? Not unless it is a legal or very important document. Why waste my energy when most people won't change their way of saying it or spelling it (see above).
3. Have you ever given a different name at coffee shops or pizza places, anywhere you might collect an order? Usually use my very simple last name at these type of places.
4. Have you ever changed your name (first or last names? marriage included and were you happy to change it?) or would you, and is there a name you'd prefer? Nope.

1. Do you like the name you are known by ? Is it different to the name on your birth certificate? Yes, I do. My full first name is Beverly. I am named after my mom's best friend.
2a. Do you have a name that is easily pronounced or spelled/spelt wrong? If I introduce myself as Bev, people often think I am saying Beth. So I use Beverly instead when introducing myself.
2b. Do you bother correcting people anymore? No. I once worked with a lady who called me Beth every time she saw me. I finally got tired of correcting her.
3. Have you ever given a different name at coffee shops or pizza places, anywhere you might collect an order? No but I know people that give a different name every time they go.
4. Have you ever changed your name (first or last names? marriage included and were you happy to change it?) or would you, and is there a name you'd prefer? Yes, when I got married I changed both my last name and my middle name. I use my maiden name as my middle name now. Here is why: my original initials were BAR. I did not want to be a BAG. So now I am BRG.

So when we named our kids we had rules like, you have to be able to pronounce and spell it, you have to know which gender is typical for that name, and they have to have good initials. Hence Paul and Mark. Then we adopted the beautiful Mei, who has a most wonderful story about her name. It is pronounced May, but she gets Me-I, Mel, and confusion when people try to read it - rarely do people get it right.

1. Do you like the name you are known by ? Is it different to the name on your birth certificate? I've got mixed emotions about my name. It really shows the era that I was born in. Marilyn is not very common these days, but it was when I was born. My first name is the same on my birth certificate. I also have a baptism and confirmation name that isn't recorded there.
2a. Do you have a name that is easily pronounced or spelled/spelt wrong? I would think it would be easy, but I've seen it massacred. Lots of people think that it is two names, I've been called Mary, Merlin, Maryland, Mary Lynn...
2b. Do you bother correcting people anymore? I still make an attempt.
3. Have you ever given a different name at coffee shops or pizza places, anywhere you might collect an order? Not usually.
4. Have you ever changed your name (first or last names? marriage included and were you happy to change it?) or would you, and is there a name you'd prefer? When we got married (45 years ago today), I dropped my maiden name & went with DH's last name. I was happy to change it, even though it is 10 characters long. My maiden name is quite ethnic and only 6 characters long. On Facebook, I use them both, but only to make it easier for people "from my former life" trying to get in touch with me. :-)

1. Do you like the name you are known by ? Is it different to the name on your birth certificate? I'm fine with it mostly & I can't imagine being anyone else at this stage
2a. Do you have a name that is easily pronounced or spelled/spelt wrong? Apparently. I never know when someone calls for a Justin when they leave off the surname if they mean me. And Justine doesn't translate well - there's one woman that i think just because of her accent she calls me Justin (and it's been years that i've known her and she has an awkward first name but i try to get it right, it annoys me more that she sends text msg's to me without the e on the end of my name
2b. Do you bother correcting people anymore? Sometimes - if people then double take or stammer and were expecting a guy. One woman i met years ago thru school still calls me Janine occassionally- i think i corrected her the first 3 times back several years ago but i don't bother anymore
3. Have you ever given a different name at coffee shops or pizza places, anywhere you might collect an order? Before we got married, DH would use my maiden name and I'd use his for food orders - both had their problems. I think about telling cafe's 'Jane' as an alternate a lot but i wonder if by the time they call my order i'd forget and keep waiting long after they called 'Jane' or if that's too 'common' and there'd be several Jane's waiting all at once
4. Have you ever changed your name (first or last names? marriage included and were you happy to change it?) or would you, and is there a name you'd prefer? I changed my last name to my DH's nearly a decade after we were married overseas, apparently that isn't recognised by the Passport office here and i only found out i wasn't technically married here when we went to renew passports, although all my other details, bank, drivers license, etc had changed long ago. After going through the changing of my last name, i don't think i'd want to bother with changing anything else, although DD & DS would both prefer to change their first names:cornfused

Ok much as I like the name Bev & that should be easy for people to get right, I think if ever I get to go to a cafe with you and your beautiful daughter, we should be Jane, Beth and Mel ;-) I do like the name Bethany but it didn't 'go' with our lastname when picking baby names so it got veto'd - I'm kind of amazed Mei isn't pronounced right more often though, goes with Taipei right?! How hard is that? !

how weird is that?! i would have thought that was pretty obvious as well!

oh my gosh yes!! it's like they don't believe that you spelt your OWN name right!
