Thanks for your thoughts. Yes, I can clip it, and did. Somehow it didn't work. I suppose perhaps if I added another white layer beneath it, clipped all three together, perhaps then I could move it over without a problem...If you have such an old version ... does this have the ability to clip a layer to the underlying layer?
When you add a gradient layer to your photo it only colours your photo because there is no other layer, but if you then take your photo and your gradient layer together into your LO everything under your photo changes as well. You need to clip your gradient layer to your photo, and if you can not do that, then yes, you have to flatten your photo together with the gradient layer... I don't think you can do it any other way.

hey Liz, to use the gradient tool, go to the bottom of your layerspanel and click on the little circle that is half white, half black (adjustment layers). In the fly-out menu choose 'gradient map...' (second from the bottom)
A new layer is created and the properties panel should open (if you do not see it, go up to the tab 'Window' click on it and choose properties). In the properties panel click once on the strip with the changing color. The Gradient Editor will open and here you can change the colors.
If you need to make changes to your gradient you can also open the editor by double clicking on the thumbnail of the gradient in your layerspalette.
To make sure it only affects your photo, use a clipping mask.
) Have just spent a few fun hours doing non MOC related things with gradients . Anyway here is my page
