Day 26 Duotone

This was fun!! I loved playing with all the different colour choices but chose this Cherry/Eggplant duotone scheme.

If you have such an old version ... does this have the ability to clip a layer to the underlying layer?
When you add a gradient layer to your photo it only colours your photo because there is no other layer, but if you then take your photo and your gradient layer together into your LO everything under your photo changes as well. You need to clip your gradient layer to your photo, and if you can not do that, then yes, you have to flatten your photo together with the gradient layer... I don't think you can do it any other way.
Thanks for your thoughts. Yes, I can clip it, and did. Somehow it didn't work. I suppose perhaps if I added another white layer beneath it, clipped all three together, perhaps then I could move it over without a problem...
Trial and error I guess :)

hey Liz, to use the gradient tool, go to the bottom of your layerspanel and click on the little circle that is half white, half black (adjustment layers). In the fly-out menu choose 'gradient map...' (second from the bottom)
A new layer is created and the properties panel should open (if you do not see it, go up to the tab 'Window' click on it and choose properties). In the properties panel click once on the strip with the changing color. The Gradient Editor will open and here you can change the colors.
If you need to make changes to your gradient you can also open the editor by double clicking on the thumbnail of the gradient in your layerspalette.
To make sure it only affects your photo, use a clipping mask.

Thanks for replying Pat.. since I wrote that post, I have spent too much time playing with the site that was posted for doing this any finishing up a BUNCH of challenges... I knew my program had to do it and I knew I was doing it right but the program was not! Just back here now, and pulled the saved images back into work space, and they opened with the gradient map already open.. I did not have to do anything..!. I guess the program must have had a huge time lag... It happens at times... WAY too much on the computer, etc! So it is working now... Thank you so much for replying, will probably spend the rest of the night playing with different color combinations!!! LOL ...Liz

Thank you so much for the easy to follow tutorial, I changed from CS3 to PSE 9 and now to PSE 15 every time the interface changed slightly, and I have had problems, getting to the sliders because I tried from the tools on the left, and single clicked, so if you were here I would kiss you ( or maybe not since I have a cold :giggle) Have just spent a few fun hours doing non MOC related things with gradients . Anyway here is my page

I'm always anxious about recoloring photos and never use filters, but I'm loving the effect that is achieved with the gradient map tool. I never used it before and if it wasn't for this challenge I probably never would have. Thank you so much for pushing me out of my comfort zone! I loved this challenge!

Here is my layout:
