Here I am posting in all the Document Your December threads with my Halloween signature. Everytime I see it, I think I need to change it out. I know Halloween is over, but it's my favorite holiday! I don't know why, I don't like the gore and horror that is becoming expected with it. But I do love the little ghouls and trick or treating and pumpkins.

Anyway. It made me wonder. What's your favorite holiday?
 
My favorite holiday has always been Thanksgiving. I really get into it and decorate and I don't like that it's getting overrun more and more by Christmas.
 
The Fourth of July because...summer, warmth, grilling, outside activities, fireworks, no work... :)
 
I just changed my fall one to this winter one! :D Obviously Christmas is my favorite- and especially because my birthday is in December to so right in the mix with all the festivities!
 
The children and I love Purim - the dressing up as Kings and Queens and acting out the story with lots of noise (we boo and hiss and stamp when Haman's name is mentioned).
 
I like Christmas... it means getting together with family members, some being ones I mostly only see then ( my nephew and his young autistic son).... also I like the opportunity to send out Christmas cards to share the message of Christmas and make contact with those who I only hear from once a year.
 
Not to be a downer but I don't have a favorite. They are usually just another day off work for me (when I was working). Now they are just another day.
 
Thanksgiving. It's all about being grateful and spending time with family and friends. No need to buy anything except food.

I wish Christmas would hold off and let Thanksgiving have its time first. Plus we have 3 family birthdays in November before Thanksgiving. So we aren't ready for Christmas until December, or after T-Day at least.

@Cherylndesigns I didn't even read anyone else's replies before I wrote my own. I feel like I should say jinx now that I've scrolled back up and read yours. :lol

I don't think it's a downer. I'm all for creating our own traditions! I'm not religious so Easter means nothing to me. Even secular Christmas stuff has gotten tiresome since it's hard financially on us to spend so much just because it's December. My family has talked a lot about doing things differently over the last couple of years. For example, this year, instead of individual birthday presents, we got season passes to a nearby amusement park. As for Christmas, we talked about going on day trips and having family events instead of doing lots of presents. My 17 year old is totally agreeable with not doing presents anymore, my 15 year old still wants me to wrap some things she has picked out herself over the last month, and only my 12 year old is feeling ambivalent about not getting some surprises to unwrap (so he's getting some).

And when we make our own traditions they don't have to be connected to major holidays either. For instance, for many years, as a homeschooling family, we celebrated Not Back to School in early September. I think the random family game nights and dinners together and such are more important than holidays anyway.

Maybe this is what I should scrap about for DYD! :think

For all these reasons, this is why I used to love Xmas but I actually prefer Easter these days - less pressure on myself to find the perfect gift for everyone & the cooler weather after summers brutal finish is a gift in itself! We don't get too nuts with the chocolate but it's still fun!
 
I do like Christmas - admit I love dit more when the kids were little. I don't think I have a fave though. The summer holidays are probably the ones I love the most bc I'm like Jan and really enjoy the summer months and being outside.
 
Christmas is my #1 love. I am fond of so many other holidays but for me Christmas is it. I love all the joy it brings, the fun activities the entire month has to offer, and just the amazing memories that we create.
 
Hmm. A favorite holiday? That's a good question.

I do like the less-commercialized nature of Thanksgiving. To me, Thanksgiving is celebrated in ways that Christmas should be: gratitude and love and family without the consumerism. (But Christmas is of course about something very different than Thanksgiving but hopefully you get my point. :) )

But saying I have a fave holiday is tough. I like them all for different reasons! Picking one would be like picking a favorite child. :giggle
 
My favorite holiday would be Christmas for 2 reasons: Our savior was born and we celebrate that. 2nd reason is I love the decorations that in my area really brightens the dullness of winter.

I do hate the commercialization of Christmas and also agree that the decorations of Christmas should be held off until after Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving should be remembered and celebrated for what it means to our country and also the time of being thankful for what we have.
