I would definitely say Thanksgiving. Like a lot of the ladies already said... it's such a great time to get together and have a laid back day TOGETHER. Not as much stress as Christmas with all the gifts and games and such...

I'm all-or-nothing about everything in my life, and this includes holidays. In general, I celebrate all the major U.S. holidays at least enough to snap a photo or two to use with the scrap kits that are coming out at the same time but Christmas... come to mama.

This year we are doing all of the following (and more TBD): decorating my parents' house, visiting Santa, cutting down & decorating our own tree, Camp Fire (like coed Girl Scouts) craft night, gingerbread house making, Christmas cookie baking, living Nativity, visiting Bronner's the world's largest Christmas store (already done), St. Nicholas Day, ringing the bell for the Salvation Army, attending local Winterfest, sledding/ice skating, my son's preschool Christmas program, the kids singing in church, celebrating with the ILs, Christmas Eve service, midnight service (just me), sibling gifts, digitally scrapbooked Christmas cards (already done & set to arrive today!), reading Christmas books before bed, shopping, making ornaments, Advent calendars (already purchased & ready to go!), each kid's new ornament for the year (purchased last weekend), seeing 'The Grinch' in the movie theaters, & celebrating Christmas Day with my family.

You have to understand, though, that I'm the office manager for a church. Researching, planning, scheduling, and executing are what I do all day long, and I do them all day long & have this kind of job because I am good at it & enjoy it. All Christmas, all the time makes me happy.

I didn't read all the posts as I am still not with enough time to process and then write (my brain is slower than ever!) but I am with you on the not liking all the gore and stuff like that, but loving Halloween.
I think it is because the holiday marks a very special time, is something only Sarita's and mine, as we didn't celebrate Halloween until we came back here in 2001, it wasn't a thing in Brazil.
Both of us are performing arts/musical theater lovers so the dressing up we still love, and Sarita enjoyed quiet a few years of going treat or trick, generally the base to go from was our place, so tons of kids around that each of us mothers would take turns to take them around the area... very community/ family amazing experience for a city like London...don't see much of it these days...

now, even though we enjoy it so much, my most fave holiday is Christmas!!!! and I can be here till next year telling you why, but rather put it in a LO instead!!!!!!!!
