Since we're talking books ...

The iPad is set to release here in March (WiFi version) and April (3G + WiFi). They range in price from $499 to $699 USD (Well, $829 if you want 3G) for 16GB, 32GB and 64GB models. I'm thinking along the same lines, that I think I'd rather spend a bit more and get the iPad over a Kindle. Of course, I want the iPad anyway so it's no contest for me! ;) :giggle

I'm thinking about getting one for hubby for his birthday in late May.

Ya i got an email from them a couple weeks ago and I think it said starting at $499 but it just looks so cool. LOL

Yeah, I absolutely love my iPhone so these are majorly droolworthy for me. It's amazing the apps that are out there!

Okay, I'm sorry if I seem dense and maybe a tad behind technologically, but what the heck is a kindle... or even an Ipad for that matter...

But if you want book req's., my all time favorite is Clan of the Cave Bear series... I LOVE Ayla... I got so wrapped up into her character that I was kind of sad when I was done the series...

I also LOVE James Patterson. They're always good reads. Also loved the Outlander series and also read The Lovely Bones when it came out. Man I used to read so much. Then I had kids and started scrapping and well... something had to give. I still read occasionally. Oh and have you ever read the Janet Evanovich series? It's pretty funny and they're a huge series.. I think like 15 books. The story is this girls becomes a bounty hunter and everything that can goes wrong does and it's actually pretty funny and witty. I really enjoy them... anyhow...

Renee, Kindle is an E-reader from Amazon. It's about the height and width of a hardback book, but thinner, and you can download books to it and read them from a screen. It holds 1,500 books, and most of the books are $9.99 or cheaper.

My issue with the Ipad is size. I want an Iphone, but I don't want to lug an Ipad around.

Julie, I found this article about the size comparison between the Kindle and the iPad.

It seems like it will be about the same size. Then you can get an iPhone and an iPad.
But you will have to wait. I am kind of an instant gratification kind of girl sometimes.

I guess what I mean is I want my Iphone for apps, and my kindle for reading, but I want to keep them separate, KWIM? I never really thought about getting and Iphone and an Ipad, but really, it is all about the instant gratification! And the Ipad is so much more expensive!

And the Ipad is so much more expensive!
Well, if we're talking the Kindle DX, which is the comparative size, the entry level iPad is only $10 more and does so much more than a Kindle. Now, for portability, I can see the original Kindle size being more attractive (and more affordable) and I'm sure that's what a lot of people want in terms of a book substitute they can easily tuck in their purse. Myself, I think I would want the DX so an iPad beats that hands down.

I do like the paper-like display the Kindle offers, and I'm wondering if Apple will offer the option of an anti-glare display like they do with their MacBooks.

I'm definitely looking for something portable and a bit less expensive!

i doubt it. But hopefully someone will come out with the anti-glare film!

I totally agree about The Sookie Bookies. OMG. I love them and read them all the time for super easy light reads, lol! I heard the Outlander Series was awesome, but I haven't read them yet. :D

Loving this thread..been thinking about a Kindle as well. Also some great book recommendations here! Woot! Getting back into reading is one of my goals for this year. I used to be voracious and then scrapping kind of tapped into my appetite. :)

Scrapping and forums and kids took over from reading for me! But maybe I'm the only one but I love fantasy! Anything with dragons and wizards and stuff!! Actually I love all books but fantasy is my fav!

I read everynight when i get into bed to relax me but it aint for long cause after a bit the words all end up as one as i cant keep my eyes open

That's my fave series too! :wub

As for the Kindle, I really love mine and one of the reasons I got it is because it's kind on the eyes (compared to a computer screen/iphone/ipad etc which causes eyestrain and dry eyes). I might get an iPad at some stage...but not for reading - I will use my Kindle for that :)
