The National Unicorn Day is celebrated on April 9th
Journaling:
"Unicorns suffer the same fate as many other symbols and legends intercepted by pop culture. They got “flattened” and stripped of their real, deep meaning.
Through the ages, unicorns were considered strong and fierce animals. In ancient cultures, they weren’t necessarily always seen as the quintessence of beauty, purity, and grace they became during the Middle Ages, Renaissance, and later on. However, they were always and across different cultures and mythologies regarded as noble and benevolent creatures. Though usually elusive, they were bringing healing and justice to people.
The Victorian era became the beginning of the end for unicorns. The sugared but simplified rendition of the legend became increasingly popular to finally join the bastardized version of fairies and other magical creatures in the mainstream.
To me, unicorns hold special meaning. They represent strength, fierceness, freedom, nobleness, authenticity and uniqueness, pride (in the best meaning of the word), and – yes – magic. This magic and mystery lie in the core of our being and shimmer through the mundane of everyday life. We all have a unicorn inside us. Sometimes it is well hidden and sometimes it’s almost on the surface, but always it is the best part of us.
Happy Unicorn Day!"
