Evelyn had been asking to go to the beach for a couple of days but it just didn’t work with our plans. But since it was Saturday and we were expecting to see Aunty Kayleigh, Momma and Dadda agreed to pick her up on the way to Seaburn and all go to the beach together. Due to lockdown it had been a while since we’d seen anyone - especially Uncle Andy, so since the Government had permitted groups of 6 or less in outdoor places I messaged Uncle Andy and saw if he’d like to meet us at the beach. As it happens, he was already walking to Roker so wouldn’t be too far behind us. When we got to the beach we looked in all the rock pools looking for crabs, lobsters and any other small sea creatures. We didn’t find many this time, Daddy even took Emilia along the rocks right next to the sea and only found one crab…. But we did find something better when we came off the rocks… Uncle Andy!! You were both SO excited to see him. It had been almost 6 months since the last time you’d seen him properly, so you certainly made up for lost time, running and chasing him along the beach.

My favourite moment of the day was when we took a few minutes to sit on the sand talking and catching up with each-other about the previous months. While we were doing that you both started collecting rocks, so I asked you to pile them around me, two of the rocks touched and looked a little like a heart, so I decided to keep the pile going until it made a really big heart. You both loved having a task to do, even more so when I asked for specific things like a big rock, a small rock, or a circle rock. It wasn’t long before you’d brought me enough rocks to make a nice big heart, and you even brought some extras so I made your initials either side. You were both so proud of our little creation so I had to snap a quick picture of you both looking proud as punch next to your rock heart. By this point we’d been to the beach for almost two hours and the weather wasn’t great, so we decided to part ways and head back home.

It was so strange to think that this time 6 months ago this would have been a pretty regular Saturday for us. Spending the day with Aunty Kayleigh and Uncle Andy, then coming back to ours and having dinner, playing a game or watching a film before them heading home. And yet here we are, September of 2020 and just two hours together feels like a big deal. In some ways it was nice to reconnect, have more to talk about than just what happened at work that week or the news events of the week, but mainly it was a sad reminder of what is happening in the world right now. When we are isolated I can push it to the back of my mind, but seeing someone you are used to seeing weekly for such a short period of time feels so alien. All I can say is that I’m so grateful to have you, my girls, the ones that keep me going, and the ones I definitely COULD NOT go 6 months without seeing. No matter whether its you giving me cuddles when I’m sad, making me laugh by being silly or handing me rocks at the beach - you are my sunshine on a grey day. I will ALWAYS be grateful of that.

Your story really made me smile. I can totally relate to 'together time' being even more precious now. Beautiful photo too, and I love all the little seaside elements :)

This is so awesome! I love that you made a rock heart. The beach sounds like a wonderfully uplifting moment for everyone. Thanks for playing in my challenge!
