I love up close details in nature. I found this tree the other day and couldn't resist taking photos of it. The bark had a blue jean like quality to it. It was covered in this fungus. Or whatever that is.

What an interesting photo. I discovered a lot of mushrooms growing on one of the trees next door, got permission and got out there with my camera to capture them. So glad you kept it a big photo where we can see the textures as well as the unusual coloring.
@Donitab Thank you very much. @flowersgal Thank you, I agree with you, the texture in the mushrooms are interesting to us both! I snapped this in the parking lot of Panera.
Looks like an awesome mushroom! What size was it, MOL? We had some huge ones growing out by some of our oaks. I stood next to them to get a foot shot in for perspective.
That is lichen. Lichen is a diverse niche of at least two organisms...often an algae and a cyanobacteria or bacteria/fungus combo. I find these little micro-environments to be magical.
@ArmyGrl Thank you so much for identifying that! I really appreciate that. You also brought back a cool memory of my father in law pointing out the Lichen in their back yard and how much he enjoyed it. I've loved it ever since. Magical is the word for it.
wow what a photo, it's like another world isn't it and love how you have captured it here. Thank you so much for playing along and apologies for the length of time it's taken me to comment on your layout. December was a crazy month for me.
