Description
here is the journalling (so you don't have to squint...)
The more we travel, the more I realise my perception of a place, be it city or an entire country is quite often very far off the reality. Never was this highlighted more than Vientiene in Laos. Until a few years ago, I would have struggled to place Laos on a map. Friends of ours were posted there, I imagined a pre-war colonial place, maybe similar to Singapore before the war, with lots of wooden plantation houses and lush tropical forest, surrounded by deep dark jungled mountains. And having spent some time in Cambodia, maybe the same hopeless, downtrodden feeling would be present. Arriving in Vientiene in the dry season soon put paid to that notion. Yes, it is still clearly a third world country but around every corner, development of a steady kind was occurring. Kids were in school and the overall feeling was one of hope. There were only a couple of buildings above three stories and that was cool. The Mekong was low and the steets were dusty. There were mountains but much further east than the capital. The temples were stunning and the people were the friendliest we had come across. We fell in love and cut short our time in Luang Prabang to return and spend more time here.

Reading your journaling, I realized that I also travel into places with a preconceived idea of what they will be like and am so often VERY wrong! You've captured that feeling so well here. I LOVE your page and the way that the large photo takes center stage next to your journaling. Fantastic job!

Great journaling & what an awesome photo. I love how this focuses on the photo and journaling, but you still have some nice elements/clusters bordering the page.
