JOURNALING: It was our nation's bicentennial and I decided to visit our country's "enemy" - The Soviet Union. I found a local travel agency that had a tour, so, I DID IT! It was a dream come true as I had wanted to go to Russia for years. Since I was traveling alone, the tour group paired me with another woman who was also traveling by herself. This could have been a disaster, but Sheila and I got along so well people on the tour could not believe we had just met on the airplane! I can't explain why, but, the moment the tour entered Leningrad (once and again St. Petersburg), I felt I was "home." The beauty and the history of this city are amazing and it honestly seemed as if I had been Russian in another life.
