It was the end of a very stressful day in January 2021 and neither mum or I wanted to cook, we literally wanted to eat and say farewell to the day...it was just one of those days. We decided to order pizza , garlic bread and a drink. It started out like any other time that we’ve had Dominoes but then I started to feel off. At first I thought maybe I had pushed my luck with dairy as I’m lactose intolerant though usually can tolerate some hard, well cooked cheese on occasion. Usually my reactions are fairly quick, I rest and the following day I am fine.
This reaction while initially normal was also unusual as I was feeling super sick the next day and the day after that and the day after that. I started to think what it could be because literally pizza was the only new or different thing and mum wasn’t unwell so it probably wasn’t food poisoning. I then realised that the garlic bread was really garlicky and we’d both mentioned it at the time. It all started to make sense, the tomato issue that thought I had when I had Italian food for years on end was actually more likely to be a garlic intolerance....ugh another intolerance was my first thought, then it suddenly became obvious how many things have garlic in them. It didn’t take me that long to adapt to the point a year down the track I am feeling much better with that intolerance at least.
Eye catching with the colorful photo and WA. SO sorry you have so many intolerance to food issues but hopefully you feel better as you discover what they are.
Glad you were able to pinpoint that it was garlic, determining the trigger is half the battle with allergies! Our local dominoes has a lot of garlic on the crust. Love how your page turned out!
@seattlesherri, its not a true allergy as such, I can still have stuff with garlic in it but only tiny amounts. I do agree though, figuring out the "bad" item can take a bit of detective work thats for sure...luckily I eat pretty much the same foods so once I thought about it I was like...that makes sense, just a pity I had to go through 4 days of feeling awful and chained to a particular room! In hindsight that was nothing though, as I've been going through 4-6 weeks of gastro issues that are hopefully being looked at tomorrow. Little bit afraid of the outcome but if I've tackled lactose and garlic this should be ok too if its what I think it could be.
yep garlic and onion underpins a lot of Mediterranean cooking - i think they are part of the first things removed in the FODMAP diet but i'm sure you've seen enough people by now to talk about that stuff - the arrows here are a great mix, incorporated into the wordart works too and you used them really well in the overall design here! (ANd awesome mixing and matching and crediting!)
@bellbird, actually I haven’t seen a lot of specialists for my intolerances at all. Years ago I was admitted to hospital and I asked could I be lactose intolerant, I feel like I have the signs (and I had major surgery that had lactose intolerance as an after effect) and was told no, not possible so I dropped it. About 9 months later lactose free milk came out here, I swapped only that and instantly felt better. I’m lucky that I’m not truly intolerant - I can still have hard cheeses, prebiotic yogurt and laughing cow cheese triangles and just swap out the milk.
