Among all of the other things my marm does for me, she is my rescuer. 14 years ago, I had my firstborn daughter. A week later, I fell into a black pit that doctors call “post-partum depression.” I couldn’t eat or sleep or breathe or take care of my newborn daughter. And my mom stepped in and rescued me. She kept my baby overnight and did all of the night feeding duties so that I could sleep. The doctors took care of the medicine side, but my mom took care of everything else until the medicine finally evened things out and I could deal with life again. With baby number one, we were already staying in my parents’ home, so she was there, but with babies 2, 3, and 4, we were living in a different country. But that didn’t keep my mom from coming to the rescue EVERY SINGLE TIME,. With each new baby, mom stayed for the first month, because that was the time that the
depression was at its worst. She did night feedings and helped make birth announcements and cooked meals and took care of my kids and cleaned and did laundry and held my hand when ilife was too dark. She lived through the nightmare with us and it was because of her that we survived. With baby number 4, she also timed my contractions on the subway car and helped me pack my overnight bag while I was in labor and then she went to the hospital with us and watched her last grandbaby being born. My mom has always been there for me, and I know I was never grateful enough when I was growing up, but I am beyond thankful for what she did for our family every time we needed her. I would be lost without her - without my rescuer.
