Birth Certificates show you were born, death certificates show that you died but scrapbooks show that you lived.
Letter:
My dearest girls,
I know you will grow up surrounded by Mammy’s pages, layouts and scrapbooks and you may wonder why I spend my free time adorning our pictures. I often say that scrapbooking is my way to relax and my way to have some time to myself, but it’s so much more to me than that sweet girls.
Scrapbooking, for me, is the art of preserving all of the precious little memories and details that I know will be forgotten over time. When I am too old or when I am gone I want you to know how much I reveled in every little thing you did- so I did layouts of you doing everyday things like helping Daddy wash the car or you playing on your trampoline. I want you to know who Mammy and Daddy were before we were even your parents, that we truly love one another because, and despite of you - so I did layouts of our dates, our wedding and our values. I want you to know where you came from - so I did layouts of your extended family and stories from the past. I want you to know my hopes and dreams for you - so I do long journaling layouts. Every layout I do, I think of you my sweet girls. When I can no longer communicate with you I hope my words and my photos can leap off the page to help you know who I am, to remind you who you are and to comfort you in your times of need.
Scrapbooking to me is my way of connecting to you eternally. Making sure my thoughts and feelings, memories and passions are preserved over the years. So no matter what happens, you know I lived, and thanks in large part to you, I lived well.
Love always,
Mamma
