He asked if I could come into the backyard and watch him catch leaves. My first thought was: but I have to start dinner... swiftly followed by: this is a bid for connection... these moments are fleeting... go.
And so I did. And we spent the next 30 minutes running around the woods like mad to catch the leaves as they fell. And as we stood there in the glow of the setting sun, feeling the wind blow, anticipating which leaves would relinquish their tenuous grip next. he reached out and held my hand.
And I knew this moment would never leave me, forever tucked away in my heart.
