**ANZAC Day is the most important day in our family calendar. More important than Christmas and birthdays. As afamily we often gather together the night before. On the day we rise around 0330-0400 to dress in our best Sunday Best. We have a gunfire breakfast of rum spiked coffee and ANZAC biscuits at home before we head to the dawn service. After the service we have breakfast at the RSL club and a beer. We then head home to drop off vehicles and catch free public transport into town for the march. The march goes for approx. 2.5hrs. Pete always marches with the RAEME Assoc. After the march we eat lunch as a family then the under 18s go home, to a movie, friends etc whilst the adults attend one of two functions. We either attend the RAEME Assoc catch up or the MATES4MATES fundraiser at Johnny Ringo's. We eventually get home about 9pm. It is a long day but well worth the family camaraderie it gives us, the catching up with old friends and making new ones.
ANZAC Day is held on the anniversary of the Gallipoli landing in WW1. It is a day to remember and appreciate the many people who have sacrificed their lives, their health and time over the years for our country. It is not a day to celebrate war but a day to celebrate the people willing to go to war for a home that they believe in. With a long family history on both sides of generations of soldiers and sailors, plus both being ex military, it is no wonder that this is our family's most important day of the year. It is such a defining day that if the kids bring their spouse/partner for the first time they are given instructions on etiquette and a dress code.**
