The Christmas I was eight years old, I probably had a very long wish list, but the item of utmost importance to me was the latest Barbie doll. It wasn't unusual for "Santa" to leave some of our gifts at our grandparent’s house, so even though Barbie wasn't among the gifts I opened first thing that morning, my hopes were still high. It was a long wait until it was time to leave for dinner and Christmas at our grandparents. My little sister was happy to play with all her new toys, and I played with my new things as well, but none-the-less, I was ready to go! My grandparents’ new home was where all our aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family would gather, and finally it was time to leave. We were the last to arrive, and everyone was ready to open more gifts, so I was quite happy we got started on that right away. I just KNEW Barbie was waiting for me inside one of those pretty packages. As the pile under the tree got smaller and smaller, and I still had no Barbie doll, I began to get anxious and afraid that Santa had finally let me down. When I opened my last package, and it wasn't my most desired new-best-friend, I broke down in tears. I had never been so heartbroken in my life, feeling betrayed by both Santa Claus and all the adults in my life. I'm not sure how long it was before I realized my uncle was calling my name, but when I finally looked up he held something out to me and said "I found this behind the piano". My hopes soared once again as I recognized the size and shape of the box, and practically tore his fingers off as I ripped it from his hands. I quickly shredded the wrapping paper and promptly broke some ear drums as I squealed in the way only little girls can, ecstatic to finally have the coolest, grooviest, most coveted Barbie doll ever in my chubby little hands.
I love the story and how you added in all the details and feelings! That Barbie is cool, I've never seen one like that. The old look to the story and paper goes beautifully with the vintage Barbie photo.
Aw, I love your storytelling! So engaging and kept me hoping for the happy outcome! What a wonderful memory and so happy to have read about it. Great job with the challenge and creating your page. Thanks for participating in the challenge!
