At first glance, this looks like a photo of a normal, happy family, sitting around having a picnic lunch in Grand Teton National Park. But then you look closer and start to notice a few things. 1) Everyone looks just a little too happy. 2) Grandpa’s head is just jutting sideways into the photo while everyone else is seated at the table. And 3) there’s a stuffed groundhog with a walking stick sitting on the table.
First we need to explain the groundhog. Yes, Grandpa Missouri has a stuffed groundhog named Bob. He likes to take Bob with him places so he can take funny photos and post them to FaceBook. Grandpa thinks he’s funny and FaceBook has given him an outlet to share his “funny” with a wider audience. Bob accompanied us our road trip. So, part one of this story is that Grandpa needed to document lunch with Bob in Grand Teton National Park for his FB fans.
Now, how to take that photo? This was before Grandpa had his phone and his selfie stick, so he put his point and shoot camera on the next table over. We were instructed to “act natural”. He set up the timer, pushed start and set off a completely unexpected chain of events. See, Grandpa isn’t the most graceful person. In his haste to return to the table and “act natural” before the shutter clicked, he didn’t notice the loop of the leg of the bench. He got his foot hooked on the leg of the bench, and went tumbling... actually tumbling! He did a complete roll, jumped up and managed to pop his head into frame, just as the timer went off. We had all run the gamut of emotions in those few seconds... annoyance with taking another Bob photo, concern as Grandpa went flying and uncontrolled laughter as he popped right up and into the photo!
Oh my, I'm not sure if I should laugh or not, but since it seems like grandpa was alright I am laughing! What a great story and I love how you told it - so completely naturally and fun. I would imagine this is a story that has been repeated at family gatherings a few times. Great layout too - love your page design. Thanks for participating in the challenge!
