Florence, Italy
We climbed the dome of Santa Maria del Fiore cathedral. Filippo Brunelleschi designed the dome with an inner shell and an outer shell. The stairs wind between the two. There were 463 stairs to reach the top. Tim had pre booked our time for the climb; the line for the climb was more than 1 and a half hours.
We weren't the first in but we were close. It took us till 1:40 to reach the top. The view was lovely as was the breeze. The stairs were hardest at first. We were going too fast. I couple short breathers and a long wait on a landing helped. When you get close to the top you run into people going down. There is some overlap in the routes. At the very top the stairs are almost a ladder. We had to wait awhile before we could go up.
We got down around 2:10. We got drinks (diet coke and nestea). We checked out the Duomo gift shop then hurried to the train station and got there with 7 minutes to spare. The group boarded the train at 2:55 and the train carried us back to Livorno. Then we got on a bus to the ship.
Love the big tower photo - love that you kept it narrow and full height of the page. And love the photos of the stairs, it sure looks tight in there. Loved reading your journaling - great storytelling. Thanks for playing along with my challenge!
wow the skinny travelers notebook style is perfect for that tower pic! love the clean design with the big S card and the below shot looking down the spiral stairs!
I love how the view point of the tower photo emphasise the height, your personalised photos of the climb, journaling, fun title and use of a clean crisp white background.
