Journaling: Without today's technology, I doubt I ever got to see my brother. A few years ago I submitted my DNA to My Heritage with no thought that I would find anything strange. I have a large family with lots of cousins and children of the cousins that I have never met, so when Emma appeared as a match on the site I thought at first it was a child of a cousin. Then I started reading a little more carefully and realized that she had as much DNA in common with me as my niece and I have with each other. I got curious and sent Emma a message to see if she knew how we were related. She replied the next day but had no idea how we could be related. She promised to come back after she had spoken to her parents. A few days later she sent a message that she thought it might be that her grandfather and I were related. I gave Emma my email address and wrote that if her grandfather wanted to contact me, he was welcome to do so. A few days later I received an email from Hans-Ingvar and we were then able to confirm that he is my half-brother that my father got when he was 23 years old. I was so happy that he wanted to get in touch and a few weeks later Hans-Ingvar and I met for the first time. Imagine that we have lived in the same village for the past decade and didn't know about each other. How crazy is that?! I am so grateful for the new technology that makes it possible to both find new family members and also keep in touch with them in an easy way.
