Journaling reads: The day of May 25, 2016 was a global day of action to raise awareness of and demand research and treatment funding for the chronic illness Myalgic Encephalomyelitis. The campaign organized around the hashtag #millionsmissing, representative of the millions of people around the world who are missing from everyday life because M.E. has them bedridden or just too tired to work, play, love, parent, and explore. People with M.E. sent pairs of shoes to different sites (Washington DC here in the US) to represent themselves at the protest, and we were asked to put out shoes on our front porches with a sign saying what we missed from our lives before M.E. I was thrilled when I found out about the #millionsmissing campaign. I would sometimes joke (in a not-funny way) that we M.E. sufferers would never be able to organize a protest because we were all too tired. Thanks to Jen Brea, an amazing woman with M.E. (and surely some other folks as well) this impossible protest actually came into being.
