My submission for the May Inspiration Challenge.
I was struggling with this challenge – hard to find inspiration these days… it’s all we can do to keep our heads above the water. I was looking at this photo that David took of the meadowlark we saw yesterday on one of our drives. Suddenly, the photo brought to mind a song that has been running through my veins for the past few months and after reading the lyrics, I knew that this was exactly the inspiration I had been searching for.
Journaling:
We heard the meadowlark before we saw him. We pulled up, hoping he would stay long enough for David to get a few photos. We were so happy that the bird stayed put, despite the fact that there was a car sitting next to him with humans in it. He continued to sing his song as he posed for his moment in the spotlight. After processing the photo, David pointed out the barbed wire that the meadowlark was sitting on. I didn’t think much of it … until now. Suddenly, the photo brought to mind a song that has been running through my veins for the past few months. Barbed wire represents so much more to me than just keeping animals contained. I grew up overseas where barbed wire was used to keep out thieves and danger. And so as I came back to this photo, I saw this innocent meadowlark sitting on the barbed wire, singing while we sat just a few feet away … singing his “hallelujah” in the presence of his potential enemies.
