Sometimes life throws a real curveball at you, and nothing turns out the way you planned! On the first day of our sixteen-day excursion, we went to the Sonoran Desert and the Superstition Mountains. An absolutely amazing place, and we walked among the dry riverbeds. We climbed high up into the mountains, and the view over Phoenix was stunning.

As we were walking back to the cars with less than 100 meters to go, the one thing that absolutely shouldn’t happen, happened. I accidentally stepped on a small round stone that was lying on a slight downhill slope, and my foot twisted completely under me. I was convinced something was broken, and the tears just started pouring down my face. I kept my boot on and tried to elevate my foot.

We had a few stops left before getting back to the hotel, and when we finally arrived and I was able to take off my boot, my ankle was twice the size it should be. Janni was kind enough to get a bandage so I could wrap my foot, and she even brought me some dinner so I didn’t have to walk anymore that day.

All I could think about was how I was going to manage all the planned hikes, including in the Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, and up to the San Francisco Peaks. Luckily, nothing was broken—it was just a really bad sprain. I was able to take part in most of the activities, even if it was a bit less fun, but my foot didn’t fully heal until several weeks after I got home from the trip.

Wonderful page, Ann Sofie, and I am so sorry for your sprained ankle, but thrilled you were still able to enjoy the rest of the trip. I have that happen a lot too, and hubby tells me I need Bubble Wrap to keep me from getting hurt on our travels! Love the photos of cactus, the picture of you in the SUV van and :( sad re your ankle. Thank you for sharing your page with us, and sorry you had that happen, but again, thrilled you were still able to enjoy the rest of your trip. Wonderful page! Thanks for playing along with us!

Ouch!! So sorry you got hurt on your trip. Glad that you were still able to participate in the excursions though. The Grand Canyon is magnificent and not to be missed! Loved the translation for your journaling, great storytelling, and love the photo from the Sonoran desert. I like the stamped elements you used, they go well with the desert theme. Wonderful page!

O No! That was very unfortunate it happened at the beginning of your trip less it happened at all. Not a good way to spend your vacation. Sounds like you still made the best of it. Great documenting. Love that kit! :)
