May 6, 2017, Mapfre Stadium
Columbus Crew SC V NE Revolution
Kei Kamara
After a brief stint with Columbus in 2006-07, the 32-year old from Sierra Leone returned to the Crew in 2015 and tied for the League top scorer with 22 goals in 33 games. In 2016, during a rough season for the team, he and Designated Player Federico Higuain got in an argument over who was to take a PK. Kei was suspended after publicly calling out Higuain and traded to New England. He currently has 2 goals and 1 assist in 8 games (611 minutes)
Ola Kamara
The 27-year old from Norway joined Crew SC in 2016 as a backup to Kei. When the older Kamara was traded to NE, Ola became a starter. He led the team with 16 goals that season and is the current team leader with 5 goals in 9 games (778 minutes)
I’m looking forward to seeing the two Kamaras on the pitch at the home stadium again tonight. I’m NOT looking forward to the weather forecast which is calling for spotty showers and temps feeling like the 40’s.
UPDATE: Well, I didn’t get to see the battle of the Kamaras as I’d hoped. Kei wasn’t even there. But, Ola put on a show, scoring the first goal in the 1st half, and assisting on Higuain’s 2nd half goal, as Crew SC bested New England 2-0, under a 1st half rainbow!
