It is always fascinating to me when I learn new things about my dad’s side of the family because I did not know any of them (other than dad) until about ten years ago. I have lived two hours away from where my dad was raised and never knew it.
After talking to my aunt and getting semi-caught up on some family history, I decided to take a road trip to Doniphan, Missouri (about 175 south of Saint Louis) and see where my dad was from. Interestingly enough, my family once owned the land that the Ripley County courthouse was built on and we sold it to the county in 1928 when the original courthouse was built. It is still the functioning courthouse in the center of Doniphan.
