During the initial 1st few weeks of my irritable bowel diagnosis, I felt so alone and unsupported. My doctor was great at managing the medical side of things, but he didn’t understand the day-to-day realities of living with IBS. Luckily there was support online. I quickly joined Low FODMAP New Zealand, Gluten Free – New Zealand & Coeliac Disease New Zealand Facebook groups online and finally felt like I had support. For the first while I asked a lot of questions typically in the middle of the night or after a flare up, trying to figure out what went wrong and what caused the issue. I use these groups for product ideas, ingredient identification when a manufacturer has changed ingredients and heaps more. Two years down & I now find myself becoming more of the expert and offering advice and support to newly diagnosed people in the thick of going “oh my god, I can’t have x,y or z anymore” or “help, I feel lost”
