Journaling:
This little piggy bank belonged to Grandma B. Grandma was born in 1902 so it is over 100 years old. I have had it in my curio cabinet for at least 40 years and I treasure it so much.
Grandma had it as a little girl and her older brother’s - Harry and Christopher, always threatened her they were going to break open her piggy bank with a hammer to take her pennies. She would scream and grabbing her piggy bank, would run away from them!
As you can see there is no plug on the bank to get the change out. You either have to shake it forever until the change falls out of the slot on top or you can take a kitchen table knife, slip it in the slot, turn over the bank and the change will all fall out.
The ceramic piggy bank is noted on the bottom as being from Austria. I do know that Grandma’s family immigrated from Germany. It is so cute with the wire that goes through it’s eyes and circles the nose. It is a two tone ceramic... brown on top and ecru on the bottom and that little tail noted on the back and those sweet ears.
I get such a smile on my face when I look at the piggy bank, and can still remember Grandma and Mom telling me the story of Grandma’s brothers!
OK so... what can I say? I always feel a bit inadequate when coming to your pages, but the words that ALWAYS come to mind are perfection, bug times feelings and beauty at it's best!!!!! This is the kind of page that I enjoy the most from you: family history...you do it so amazingly well, and the feelings your pages bring....warm my heart each & every time!!!!! ou are such a great story teller.... does it still have coins? I read the ways you can take them out, not sure if you did take them all out ...anyway the page is brilliant, gorgeous choices, love the way you made and placed the title.... FABULOUS!!!! apologies I couldn't make the page till now, we talk later, for sure but first.....
Into the JANUARY Froggy Faves!!!!
@MrsPeel oh my thank you so much my dear Cynthia for the froggy favorite on my page .. I am so thrilled!!! Regarding if there are still coins in the piggy bank, no I do not keep any in there. I just keep it in my curio cabinet. Sliding a butter knife in to get coins out with fear of breaking it really kept me from doing that.. I can still hear my Grandmother telling me the story of her brothers as she was the baby of the family Thanks again for the Froggy Fav too.. I read your comment to CJ and he was warmed by it.. hugs
Very cool! Love the story! I'm intrigued by the wire. Does it have a functional purpose, or is it just decorative? Beautiful page - so many great details! I love the subtle portraits tucked into the journaling.
@KimJ thank you Kim.. re the wire, no function or purpose .. it is just for decoration and appears to be bent and twisted through the 2 holes and wraps around the snout. the bottom portrait of Grandma, I can see both my Mom and me in her face. Thank you for your sweet and kind comment!
I related to this layout. I had a glass piggy for coins when I was growing up although it was located at my grandparents. They put coins in and when they got full, we had a great time getting the coins out. Grandpa did give us each our piggy bank. It is displayed in my living room and has pennies in it! Thought about scrapping it but I've already done a layout about it.
