------------------- Journaling:
It was 1979 and my 18th Birthday. I was set to take my road test in Bayshore. At first when I got there I was parked and waiting in line for my turn when I moved up and the car behind me did not. When the Drive Tester got in the car, he was not very nice. He first said I jumped (cut) the line, which I did not. Then we began the test. I was driving my parent’s 1962 Starfire Oldsmobile, and for some reason, the car was running hot. The hot light was on and right in the middle of my 3 point turn, the car stalled! I had to restart the car and I continued with the parallel parking, etc. however I knew I was doomed. (The car was huge and like a boat, but I sure loved it.) I came home very upset as it was my Birthday and I knew I had failed. Mom had a surprise party for me after I got home. but I was still pretty bummed and upset about it, so the next week, Dad took me out driving and we rescheduled the test. This time the test was scheduled at Fireman’s Park in Lindenhurst and Voila, I aced it! The car did not overheat and I was not nervous at all. I got my license in the mail the next week!
I love your journaling; it hits home for me. I turned 18 in November of 1979. I think the driving age was 16, I passed by the skin of my teeth. I love the flow of this page, the photos of that old car. Such a great color. cars were boats back then! I love that border also. Wonderful page!
Soo cool that you have photos of the car you drove on your drivers exams. I have so few photos from my childhood. Loved reading the story and how you persevered and passed the second time. Good for you for not giving up! I love the design with the road and the street signs. Fantastic page and journaling!
@HeatherB thank you Heather The car in the driveway is mine, the steering wheel with manual shifter I had to get on line from a vintage car site LOL... The speedometer on the car was really neat. With my brother when he drove and me too when I drove the car, we loved the way the speedometer would start out as green then the line got longer as the speed went up then it would change to yellow then orange and when you hit 70 it would turn a bright red.. we would have fun on the parkways to get it up that high for a brief time (avoiding being pulled over).. fun memory!
