276 words Inspired by my old school-styled scrapbook made by my Mom, I began creating "scrapbooks” at age seventeen. Recording of my senior year was the theme for my first album. After a gap of about a decade, I picked it back up and began working up albums for each of my kids, Holiday albums, Vacation and Heritage albums. Our Ministry album was one of my favorites. Seeing in one book all the different places, projects, and people made telling the story so much clearer. The progression from kraft paper pages bound with string tie covers to the wonderful modern scrap pages with embellishments to stepping out into digiland was exciting and sometimes challenging. There is a learning curve with each new venture in life. I am very glad that I did each of these methods, and continue to use the latter two.
I am now beginning books for each child’s adult life, and then each grandchild. While I still only call myself “Ama” and steer clear of “the G word”, I couldn’t feel more grateful for what those littles have brought to my life. They are often the stars of my pages.
I don’t only “scrap”. In fact, I prefer to not use that term. Preserve is my go to word. Moments, words said, events, milestones, rites of passage, hard times, grief, recovery, and triumphs make their way into my books often in Art Journal style. I was doing “art journaling” back in the 90’s before it had a name, or any “designer” had put out a shingle claiming the genre for their work. So it was natural to combine the two forms of creating for me.
Amazing how long you've been art journaling. So cool that you were doing it before it was a "style". I like your go-to word for scrapping - preserving. It's perfect! Great page and love how you did the journaling around the border of the page. Thanks for playing along with my challenge!
