@flowersgal - thanks!! They are some sort of orange fungus, growing on a downed tree. I have a friend who teaches nationally about dyeing using plants chosen by Native American dyers, so I keep my eyes open during our hikes and walks. I'm waiting for someone to point out that there are many states with a Nashville, but being we are six hours from the Grand Old Opry, and yet our own tourist destination, the notion sticks. LOL! Our mail struggles, too - TN and IN are pretty close and apparently zip codes are meaningless.
