In April, 2018, I took a trip to Cuba. This was a bucket list trip. I grew up in Florida, as did my father before me and his father before him. When I was little, my father would tell me stories about hopping a plane or boat to visit Havana for the weekend, going to La Tropicana for a show, or gambling at one of the beautiful hotels in the city. And then - one day, they couldn't go anymore! Fidel Castro had taken over the country. I remember thinking that I hoped I could visit this mysterious place one day.
In 2015, the visitation ban was miraculously lifted, and in 2018, I took a week-long trip to Cuba with Best Day Adventures. It was a humanitarian mission and we brought lots of items for the people. I did, however, have a few personal goals: 1) See a show at La Tropicana; 2) Ride in an old American car; and, 3) Find the best mojito.
We toured Havana (and later Cienfuegos), saw a show at La Tropicana (yes, you still get bottles of rum at your table while you watch the show), and I rode in some amazing old American cars. AND, (ahem) after many, many tastings of mojitos around the city, I found it! The best mojito in Cuba! I asked the bartender for the recipe, and she taught me how to make it. I wrote it down in my phone and now I memorialize the recipe here.

What a great story! I'm so glad you got to experience Cuba the way you'd dreamed of. I'm not really a mojito person, but I have to admit it looks pretty refeshing. Lol. Thank you so much for joining the storytelling challenge!
