This is an ATC. My inspiration was Step #5 in the Psychology Today article.
JOURNALING:
How to Help
I'm not a "people" person. I don't have the "caregiver gene" when it comes to people. Animals - Yes. People - No. But, when I recently had to become the personal caregiver for a loved one on their final journey, I TRIED to do it but realized it just isn't in me. That is when I found Hospice care. I was able to turn my loved one over to people who knew how to give her the personal care I just couldn't in those last few days and who made me realize it is OK that I couldn't do it. I was there for the emotional support, just not the physical. Sometimes "helping" is learning that you are not the one to do it and finding someone who can.

This is really amazing! And yes! I can so resonate with it! I am so glad you were able to find the care for your loved one and not have to feel overwhelmed with it!
And I agree- this is a beautiful ATC! Thank you so much for sharing!
I would think I'd be horrid at being a caregiver, I was aghast when a co-worker of mine, a management engineer, decided to chuck her career out the door to become a registered nurse. Some people have that nurturing gene, some people don't. And you were fortunate (as well as your friend) for finding your balance. What a wonderful friend you were!
