Green Cay

Description
I couldn't resist recoloring the feathers to match the anhinga and making the word "green" that gorgeous mint color.

Made with Haven kit, pocket cards, and (new) alpha by ninigoesdigi

Template is September 2025 Monthly Template Challenge Freebie from Studio Kaleidoscope
Thank you both!

@scrapchyck - it's always so fun to see them air-drying their wings after getting out of the water. We just randomly see them as we're going around sometimes. I'm sad my son can pronounce it now because "ah-ah-ah" was the cutest thing ever.

@umyesh - I had to :evillaugh

Beautiful page Brenda! I love your bird sanctuary photos of your son finding all the feathers.. so very sweet and I really love that you are teaching him so much about nature. I just smile :) Love how you used the template to showcase them, and the added feather stamps and how you recolored them to match.. well done! Thank you for sharing and playing along with the September Template Challenge!

He wasn't finding feathers; he was finding birds :D We bought him a laminated birding guide in the gift shop and he would walk up to people with big cameras or binoculars and point at the bird in the guide he wanted to see to ask if they had seen one. He also shoved his tiny camera right in the anhinga's face. We take that birding guide with us everywhere, especially Merritt Island, although he's never gotten quite as close to anything since these photos.

(sorry I couldn't read all the journaling!) I love the MI sanctuary.. my mother was on their staff there for a short while before she got sick. amazing place. She knew all the bird artists and was best friends with Arthur Singer way back in the day. :) Arthur was at their house (he also did the US postal stamps (birds and flowers of the US) in the 1980's with his son) and did a watercolor painting as the Great Blue Heron posed for them on our canal wall.. Arthur sat at the table on our dock.. I have it hanging on my wall! I also did a GBH page (a few ) with Arthur. His Birds of North America guide book is one of the best!

Anhingas are amazing as they dry off :) they will pose for a while!

That is amazing! Probably one of your most treasured works of art. I just put Birds of North America on my "maybe buy for homeschool" list since we're starting with ornithology this year.

I love befriending the staff and volunteers; that's how I got a map to where the flamingos were last time we were at MI. I always ask if anyone reported seeing something cool and they're ALWAYS excited to tell us. I do that everywhere we go and also tell people if/when I see cool things.

I'm so ready for it to cool off so we can go birding again. I'm also so ready for manatees to come visit.

Check your local library to see if they have "friends of the library" book sales and see if you can pick one up used... :) Arthur's guide book is amazing .. one of the best :)

I remember going with my Mom when I was visiting my parents, to the MI sanctuary for one of their staff parties/pot luck and we had wild boar and alligator tail nuggets :) That was the first time I had either. The alligator nuggets tasted like chicken :giggle
