Journaling reads:
February 2025 - John was a collector, no doubt about it. In his “music room” upstairs, he had amassed quite the collection of vinyl albums which had migrated into the loft hallway and beyond. 95% of the audiophile equipment is now out for consignment and most of the vinyl has been sold. So I was left with the Per Madsen modular vinyl storage racks. They are made of solid red oak, quite heavy & expensive to purchase. No one would want to pay me for their true value. So I decided to keep them and turn them into a wall unit. And here is the shuffle. While the walls were bare, I started filling in the holes left behind with Spackle, where John showcased artwork, etc. Then I began painting, Joe was a good sport, drove in from Chicago with his work clothes and did the rolling while I worked on trim. Over the course of the next week, I vacuumed, cleaned the floor, polished each rack and began the assembly of my wall. It is still not quite done. I’m waiting for the paint base for “Into the Wild” to be delivered to my local store for the accent wall. Once that is painted, I can place the last 2 columns of racks over in the corner. Purchasing tempered glass to lay across the oak slats to form the shelf unit. A bit of cable ties for stability. I hope my vision becomes reality soon.
46 record racks
5 sets of compact disc drawers
1 drawer unit for 45’s
2 cassette drawer units
8 bases & tops

WOW! This is such a beautiful blend of storytelling and creativity! I love how you documented the transformation step by step, both in your heartfelt journaling and design. The mix of textures, journaling and structural elements really brings the theme of building alive. That storage rack is an absolute statement piece and the deep blue is a perfect choice. Thank you so much for playing along with Lynn & Rachel's mixed media challenge.

So creative, and whilst you needed to sell the equipment and vinyl, whilst it may bring back pain to pass by the unit or see it i'm sure at times it brings comfort and nice to have been able to keep something, and of practical use. I really love the wall repainting, hope it all comes together in completion soon :)

@Rachel Jefferies Thanks, Rachel. As you know, my brother is here this weekend. In his absence, I had painted the other walls and cleaned woodwork and blinds. The wall unit got completed. He helped move an extremely heavy subwoofer so that I could proceed with cleaning and arranging. The room is probably 90% done.
