@bellbird More than you actually wanted to know! LOL. https://www.epicurious.com/ingredients/a-visual-guide-to-winter-squash-varieties-article
So, butternut squash is different from pumpkin here, and spaghetti squash is something different from that! We also have acorn squash routinely. Pumpkins that are big - jack o' lantern, giant pumpkins are not good eating pumpkins. But sugar pumpkins are great for pie! They are also pretty good for eating.
zucchini - do you call it courgette?
eggplant - aubergine?
Also, I love when we have these discussions! They are so enlightening.
@bestcee well the only one from that list I know is Japanese pumpkin or Kent Pumpkin (& that's mostly what it's sold as here) The others I'd have to seek out seeds to and grow (DH does that sometimes, we have a seedbank in the garage fridge, long other story, he likes heirloom varieties but I argue we should know what it tastes like before he bothers trying to grow it) Anyhow, we say zucchini & eggplant
@bestcee nah they probably would disappear into quarantine never to be seen again (y'know those Border Force reality shows? Bio security can be pretty ruthless even between Tasmania & mainland Aust)
