@bestcee I used to make it every few weeks for her to take to school but not so much this year. The photos here were more the novelty of her rolling it herself - it's just cooking the sushi rice (short grain) to packet directions, cutting veggies in strips, piling it all on the nori/seaweed sheet & using the mat - it was a rare week she thought to put avocado & smoked salmon on the shopping list & along with carrot & capsicum, they're her fave western style sushi ingredients
@bellbird Oh my goodness! "it's just" - That seems like a lot of work! I served Matthew sushi this week for lunch - Peanut butter and jelly on a tortilla, rolled up and cut like sushi pieces. In other words - that's so awesome that you make it so often at home!
@bestcee grated carrot & smashed avo(cado) on a slice of normal bread with the crusts cut off & rolled similarly was her alternate 'sandwich sushi' in younger years (it would never have occurred to me that u could put PB& J on a tortilla! And I think it was a thread you started about tortilla chips/crisps that got me hooked on them! I may need a 12 step program in the not to distant future after I tried some of DH's & then have gotten him to buy other varieties all in the name of snack exploration)
@bestcee And the sushi thing could work with leftovers really to reduce prep time, leftover chicken & salad but the rice consistancy is apparently key, I learnt from another mum several years back that was born in japan.
