My sister Gayla was the Director of Child Sponsorship for Horizon International for many years. She got to go on two mission trips, the first one in 2008, the second in 2012. In addition, she traveled with the Children's Choir from Kuyasa on different occasions when they traveled in the US, for fund-raising purposes. These pages are from her first visit to Limpopo, Zambio, Western Cape and Kyamundi Village in 2008. She took all (but the few she was in) of these poignant photographs of the children, most of whom are HIV/AIDS orphans.
@Electra I've been working on these for a few days, Electra. I'm taking Lynn's Travel Pages class and I decided to scrap these pictures of my sister's first mission trip to Africa. I'm waiting on more pictures from her - her laptop crashed and she's trying to find her pictures. She takes beautiful photographs.
@KellyM Thanks so much, Kelly! I live vicariously through my sister's experiences in Africa. Of course, she slept in the worst conditions - I'm not sure I could do it. Mosquito netting over them for protection from the critters.
Those pictures of "real life" are humbling, for sure. Do you read Alexander McCall Smith's #1 Ladies Detective Agency? I'm 99% sure that Limpopo has been mentioned.
