Linda Harris and Sue Gifford were two of my best friends. We met when I was about 7 years old (ca 1968). We lived in the same neighborhood and attended the same schools from 1st through 12th grade. When we were in 8th grade at Southeast Junior High School, we became best friends. They took me in when I really needed someone to include me. I was having a particularly rough year. They made sure to call me over to sit with them at lunch and stuck with me afterwards – between classes. I finally had a group. This continued throughout high school and a couple of years after. Sue married a man who was stationed at Altus Air Force Base and moved away. Linda got a job at K-Mart and eventually moved up in the company. I believe she and her family moved to the Dallas area. As far as I know she never married. I attended a couple of years of college at OSU and then moved back home. I met my husband shortly after that. We were eventually transferred to Wichita Falls, Texas and then to Phoenix, Arizona. I lost track of both Linda and Sue. We moved back to Altus in late 2000. I got my job back at the library and life went on. We had a young man coming to the library to use the Internet computers. His name was Gifford, so I asked him if he knew Sue. Turns out, she was his aunt – AND she just happened to be in town! What are the odds? The next day I was working, and I got a call that I had a visitor at the front desk. I walked out and there she was! I swear she had not aged a minute! She now lives on the east coast, but we keep in touch with each other through Facebook. I hope someday that we will be able to re-connect with Linda. She no longer has family in Altus, so I don’t really expect her to show up like Sue did. I keep searching on social media, hoping that she will eventually show up. It would be nice to catch up with her life also. Love them both so much! BFF!
