The heirlooms in our family don't live with us, though I know one day likely they will be passed on to me & in time one of the kids I suppose. There are some jewelry, a recipe book, and the photos from years (I am so thankful I will be trusted with the photos). There is one thing in the house though that I hope becomes a new heirloom to pass down. The Christmas stockings for each of us. Before we got married, I cross-stitched stockings for Mike & I because I wanted us to have special stockings. Christmas is my favorite holiday. Christmas is time to celebrate family, being together, faith, traditions. I was so eager to be sure we had something special to begin our new traditions as we combined our family traditions into our own. With each pregnancy I started a new stocking even before we knew a gender or name. It was crucial to be sure the stocking was done for the first Christmas. I somehow managed. I loved the stockings so much, I hoped the kids would know that each stitch was done with love. I had hopes they would one day when they were adults love the stockings. Imagine my delight that each year they all look forward each year to hanging their stockings. I have heard them tell their friends about the stockings, how mom made them. It warms my heart so much. SO these are our new Christmas heirlooms and I’m so happy that they already mean a lot to my kids.& I hope they cherish them for years.
