"That is the beginning goal each time. In 2001 it was the beginning goal when I first took up running and it has been the goal after the birth of each of my babies. I set it as the first distance I want to run a race at. 5k. That is always my first race distance and then I work my way up from there. I have done the couch to 5k program many times. It is such an accomplishment to finish that first 3.1 miles race when I am getting back into running. I know from that number, I can keep moving up and get to my half marathon distance. I really enjoy that now, as I work toward this goal, I have my family running along with me. So far we have stuck with 3.1 miles, but I know that in the future the kids will be outrunning me and their numbers will be much higher and faster than mine."
